July 27, 200817 yr I'll give them credit, they don't completely discredit Florida, but its like the official disclaimer for any national announcer so they don't have to discuss Florida, they can just slap on "Don't forget about the Marlins" in any NL East discussion and they've filled their quota for discussing us. They did a segment on BBTN about the SS's in the NL East possibly deciding the division, and they don't even talk about Hanley! I'll give them credit, Krukky lead off by claiming Hanley is the best, and it was mostly about how Reyes and Rollins have shaky personalities, but its just ridiculous how they never, ever say ANYTHING about Florida. We beat the Cubs, and the story is how Harden has such horrible luck, not how we win. The Mets lose, and the story is about how its still only NY and Philly that could win the NL East. Oh, I'm sorry, and "don't forget about the Marlins". Blah. At this point they might as well forget about us, I'd rather that then a condescending mention in every NL East discussion.
July 27, 200817 yr See.. you gotta do what I do... Just ignore them once they start talking about the NL East. About 99.9% of the time, it's never something good said about Florida. ESPN hates us. Don't know why.
July 27, 200817 yr Author And one other point, I've not once seen ANY meaningful mention of Josh Johnson or Chris Volstad by BBTN or any other program, yet since they've entered the rotation they have pitched like our aces. If it were the Mets or Phillies, this would be huge news! Getting 2 pitchers to step into your staff and essentially become the top 2 starters. But because its us, they just assume our pitching sucks and don't even notice this.

ESPN hates us. Don't know why. Eh, its not ESPN. I miss Harold Reynolds and Peter Gammons (well when Peter was a regular BBTN contributor), they were always very fair with the Marlins, Peter especially. The guys on there now suck for the most part... Buster is a stats guy so naturally he'll hate on Florida, Kruk is a Phillies homer, Eduardo is just an idiot who spouts common knowledge, Eric Young ditto, and Orestes is actually a Marlins homer so that shouldn't really count...

July 27, 200817 yr First base isn't a huge hole if we finally do the right thing and put Cantu there. And put a certain someone at third. From everything I've heard, McPhereson is potentially as shaky as Cantu at third. Thats no guarantee to fix anything. Its like taking a bandaid off one foot and putting it on the other. I think most of that is from earlier in the season. From what I hear, he's improved since then. Besides, it would be mostly for offensive purposes. Jacobs just isn't getting it done. Once in a blue moon he hits a home run, and that's it. Man... Jake looks retarded at the plate... the angle I had today.... ive seen better uppercuts on mortal combat

July 27, 200817 yr who cares. It's not as if we are going to lose more games if we don't get media attention. I have almost come to the point where I prefer the Marlins not being noticed, it just makes others fans say "wtf" more when we do good things.

I have almost come to the point where I prefer the Marlins not being noticed, it just makes others fans say "wtf" more when we do good things. Well I mostly agree, I just find it especially annoying that they always use the phrase "Don't forget about the Marlins", when clearly they have. I'd prefer they just not mention us instead of always using that careless blanket statement.
July 27, 200817 yr I have mixed feelings, on one hand it does piss me off that we don't get the credit we deserve, that most people don't even include us as an option to win the NLEast, and that the few times we do get props it is quickly followed by a slam of some sort. But on the other hand, I do like being underestimated.

Well I mostly agree, I just find it especially annoying that they always use the phrase "Don't forget about the Marlins", when clearly they have. I'd prefer they just not mention us instead of always using that careless blanket statement. What exactly do we want them to do? It seems like every year the marlins let some of their best (or best known) players go and have zero expectations coming into the season. Teams like the Phillies and Mets have huge payrolls and always seem to add to their payroll and thus, their expectations. Then factor in the crowd effect. When the mets or phillies are playing, they are in front of 40,000 people. When the marlins are playing they might be in front of 10,000 to 15,000. So when we are talking about getting "credit and tv time", on a national level, the average fan associates a "revolving door" roster and an empty stadium with the marlins. Maybe its just me, but that combination above does not scream out lets hype up the marlins.

July 27, 200817 yr While it is disconcerting for us (the fans) the guys in the clubhouse seem to have able to turn it inside out and use it to their advantage. "We don't care what people say..." is a message that resonates repeatedly through comments by Marlins players so if this works I say great, I won't punch my plasma, I'll go with the flow. :brigginbounce
July 27, 200817 yr OMG I just watched ESPN the gave Jeremy Hermida his own box he was like the best performance player vs CUBS Hes batting 400 with 6 Homeruns and 9 Rbi's against the cubs at wriggly
July 27, 200817 yr I actually think being ignored/not taken seriously/disrespected (take your pick) works well for the team. Being underestimated seems to be motivational and gives them that "us against the world" mentality. That said, as a fan, I can't help but notice that the Marlins are often an afterthought, if that. Last night they went through Touch 'Em All, spoke at length about multiple HR games and did not include Hermida in that conversation. As we all know, many of our wins turn into a story about the other team. I think the other teams and players are fully aware that the Fish are to be taken seriously and it's only an issue with the media. All in all, I think it helps more than hurts where the team is concerned so I don't let it bother me. I still have out-of-towners tell me that the Fish came out of nowhere in 2003. I always say no, actually they did not. That team certainly thrived on surprising people.
July 27, 200817 yr ESPN hates us. Don't know why. Because Miami is not located in the northeast. Oh, and we only beat up on Washington and Pittsburgh apparently.
July 27, 200817 yr I hate that line, I was watching SNY, the Mets channel, and the Mets announcers did that same thing.
