Good interview. I hope we can get this thing started.

Interesting read on Fredi
I disagree with the hit and run strategy. I feel that we don't make contact enough at the plate and that the majority of our players are too slow for this strategy to be successful.

Joe Mather's catch in the 8th inning...
I brought this up in the game thread. I thought it hit the wall, and from one replay view it looks like it did right before he caught it. But even if it did, it would be way too close for the ump to have seen it.

8/11 Post Game
I cannot believe what I saw tonight. We played (if you can call it that) like we had no business in the major leagues.

Big, big road trip
Two big series, one big road trip. Phillies and Mets. Jaime Moyer (10-6, 3.79 era, 1.33 whip) Kyle Kendrick (9-5, 4.59 era, 1.49 whip) Cole Hamels (9-7, 3.37 era, 1.06 whip) Unknown (John Maine placed on 15-day DL) Oliver Perez (7-7, 4.12 era, 1.39 whip) Mike Pelfrey (9-7, 3.91 era, 1.44 whip) I would like to go 4-2, but I'll take 3-3 as long as 2 of the wins are against Philly.

I'm just glad we don't play the Rockies again this year.

Post Game 8/3
Everyone played poorly except for Scott Olsen. Its a shame he couldn't get a win with that outing. And no, I am not secretly Scott Olsen belittling my teammates.

Post Game 8/2
Jacobs sucks (even with his triple) and I really think the only reason he remains a Marlin is because McPherson isn't exactly a lock to be a star in the MLB. Since the break, Jacobs is hitting near .290 and OPSing .940. I don't particularly like the guy either but give credit where it's due. I will give him credit when he stops swinging at ball 6. :thumbup Didn't Jacobs walk on 4 straight pitches and runners on 1st and 2nd yesterday? I was pretty surprised myself.

Free Pizza
The donuts thing was the best, but I never bothered to get the donuts after the game because the line usually wrapped around the building at the one closest to me. The one thing that annoyed me about those chants was sometimes the crowd would start cheering for our 12th hit when the game was on the line while we should have been chanting "lets go marlins."

Surprise! Marlins 2 games out of the wildcard!
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings?da...=false&st=2 Only the Mets, Cards, and Brewers are ahead of us.

Big, Big Series
Great start! That whole John Maine "injury" thing really changed the momentum of the game for us. Yeah, what the hell was that? I smell a rat. First, he was just sitting there for an inning not doing anything. Then, it was his forearm and he was seen icing it. Next, it was his shoulder and he was nowhere to be seen. Something's not right. And to add to that, Fernando Tatis acting like he caught that ball in the first inning when everyone could tell that it hit the ground. Pretty typical of the Mets.

ESPN's Titletown...
I'm pretty sure the contest is between cities that refer to themselves as "Titletown." And not just cities that have a lot of championships.

Big, Big Series
Projected Mets starters against us: John Maine (9-7, 4.20 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) Oliver Perez (6-6, 4.15 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) Mike Pelfrey (9-6, 3.67 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) It would be nice to start the series by knocking that stupid grin off of John Maine's face.

Big, Big Series
Alright, we split at Chicago. Hopefully, we can win the series against the Mets and maybe slow them down a little bit.

Anyone tired of the "Don't forget about the Marlins"line
ESPN hates us. Don't know why. Because Miami is not located in the northeast. Oh, and we only beat up on Washington and Pittsburgh apparently.

Marlins fans showing loyalty with the remote!
Yeah, we've always spanked in the TV ratings. Of course THAT won't ever make it into all of the multiple articles that are written to trash the Marlins fans. You do understand they never talk about the other teams' TV ratings either. They only talk about actual attendance figures. Which is the way it should be. Teams get ZERO $$ from the cost of your TV, DirecTV or cable price, your munchies and drinks from the fridge, etc... I could care in the least about our TV ratings. I care that I am outnumbered and out yelled by fans of opposing teams at my home stadium on a routine basis. You all want to pat yourselves on the back? Just keep in mind our season ticket holders number a whopping 5,000 and we are pulling a little over 15,000 to games. Of that 10,000 differential it would be a good guess (and a low one) to say 7500 of them are for the other team. Wonder how that number relates to fans of the other teams watching the Marlins play them on local feeds? There is no way that half of the fans in attendance are opposing team fans. Maybe against the Mets, but against 90% of the rest of the National League... no way. TV does bring in money to the team, albeit indirectly. One of the main selling points to any professional team sponsorship is television exposure. The higher the Marlins television rating is, the more valuable the sponsorship is worth. And with any professional sport organization, sponsorship brings in the largest percentage of money hands down (especially one that does not sell a lot of tickets). So higher television ratings do help the Marlins as an organization. If the Marlins do get their own stadium, they will be able to bring in even more money through sponsorship because they can design their corporate sponsorship packages around what they want. They do not have to share a stadium (one that is very bland and does not provide a lot of sponsorship opportunity) with another team. The television ratings are something to be proud of, I'm sure all of us wish that they would translate into larger attendance....but that's a whole different story.
