Harold Reynolds

Featured Replies

Harold Reynolds is a big Marlins fan and has been for years. Our defense blows and he just calls it like he sees it.

You're right on. HR was there in 2003 when Krukie was ridiculing the Fish and making nightly insulting jokes, and Gammons was promising everyone the Marlins were sellers at the trade deadline.

What HR was accused of (it settled) had nothing to do with rape, not even close.

You can't fault HR here for speaking the truth. Defending Josh Willingham on that play is trying to defend the indefensible...ad I wouldn't be surprised if asked he'd admit it.

That said, no one is perfect, that's why they play 162.

HR was one of the only reasons, besides Gammons to watch Baseball Tonight, I miss him.......

Willingham is an OF that used to be a catcher, when did he last catch, 1958???

you still consider Ankiel a pitcher? doubtful.......

I'm out of the Florida market so I rarely get to watch televised games. I listen to the MLB gameday audio as much as I can. So, when I'm able to see the games like I was able to this week on WGN and TBS it's nice to see. But I'll have to think about listening to the broadcast if Harold Reynolds is part of the broadcast. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to ring that guy's neck. He's such a freaking moron. On the play the Hammer blew today, he's like "if that guy was a real outfielder he would have easily made that play." HUH?!?!?!? I don't know how many times I have seen the Hammer make great plays! One in particular involved Anibal's no-hitter a few years ago! I don't know how many times I had to hear about how great the Cubs were and how the Marlins defense is just sh*t. Yes, we have a poor defense but we didn't lose because of that necessarily today. Our starting pitching sucked. Hey Harold, you and Kruk (along with all the Marlin haters) should know a little bit more about the team before throwing up your hate! Wondering if anyone else feels this way, it's getting freaking old!

Hammer is about an average LF so that comment, if Reynolds made it, is a cheap shot.

He might be about average so far this season but you're also only talking about 400some innings. Look at his career numbers and he's towards the bottom of the league.

Now while a player almost always will improve his ability at a posistion by playing it more, you're still only looking at 400some innings, less than half a season. Fielding stats are like batting stats, distorted by a small sample size.

i know that Josh hasnt caught in years and yes he is an OF now... my point was that he isnt a natural outfielder, he was put out there cause of injuries and because of his catching deficiencies... which means he doesn't have a natural outfielder's speed, range, reactions, or instincts... and that's why, despite being fairly capable out there, he fails to make plays like the one today...

who makes that play today? Andruw Jones, Jim Edmonds, and Ichiro. Why? Because they are more natural outfielders than Josh...thats all I meant

Alfredo played top-tier CF defense in 2006 in argueably the most important posistion on the field (and, at the least, the most important in the OF) even though he never played the OF before.

Skilled defenders are skilled defenders. Ofcoarse some players have the abilities to play some posistions better (i.e. recognizing routes on balls in the OF), and you can't ignore experience, but range and reaction times are range and reaction times.

I just wanted to drop my hat into this discussion, because I deeply respect Harold and agree with what he said. Harold has long been a pillar in the community (especially in Seattle) and received numerous awards for his volunteer work. In terms of baseball knowledge, I thought he was second only to Gammons on the BT broadcasts, and was the most impartial, least biased voice on the program (a mantle, which as already been pointed out, that has been taken up by EY). He won a sports emmy.

In terms of his dismissal from ESPN, they settled in April; while settling was not necessarily admission that they were wrong in term'ing him (nor does it mean Harold was right). What it does mean is that ESPN felt he had a strong enough case against them they he could potentially win. That does not make him guilty of sexual harrassment, or being a rapist (whether it was a joke or not, the comment was irresponsible).

Accoridng to a Febuary '07 NY Times article, he was dismissed for the following incident: "Reynolds, who had worked for ESPN for 11 years, said in the original lawsuit that he had given a ?brief and innocuous hug to a female intern? who ?never expressed any discomfort? and later that day had dinner with Reynolds, a former Seattle Mariners second baseman, at a Boston Market restaurant. The complaint added that Reynolds never saw her afterward, and that she ?made no complaint until approximately three weeks later.? ESPN informed him by letter last July 24 that he had been fired."

Now, hugging in the workplace is inappropriate and unprofessional, but I don't see how that constitutes SH.

In terms of what he said about Hammer, he made the comment "If he was a real outfielder;" I believe he said that in the most literal sense, as we all know he's a converted catcher/infielder. I believe that's all he meant. Hammer is probably my least favorite player on the team, as he's showm me nothing the past two years except injuries, inconcsistent offense and sub-par defense. The same can be said for Hermida and Jacobs. I'd very much like to see them all replaced at some point.

I spoke with Harold after the Draft in June, and he was rather "gushy" about the Fish. He said we have a strong, young core, unbelieveable farm system, and once we got more of our starting pitching back, we'd be an extremely tough team to beat down the stretch. Hardly sounds to me like someone who has an agenda against the fish.

Remember, he is now an employee of MLB and TBS; both entities are trying hard to push the Cubbies right now, so I'm sure they instructed him to talk up the Cubbies and the Marlins down somewhat. I oubt he has the same kind of creative and intellectual freedom as he had at ESPN, which is at least somewhat impartial.

Well, that makes sense. I can see him having to cave to pressure from the networks.

Harold Reynolds is completely awesome and is missed greatly on BBTN. There were a lot of rumors swirling around his firing; including that they actually give the analysts "opinions" and "sides" and Harold didn't like it one night and got really upset. The suit that ESPN settled was actually a "Wrongful Termination" suit issued by HR; which means ESPN somewhat admitted they were wrong in firing him.

I hope TBS lets him do World Series games this year :).

Harold Reynolds is a Marlins fan, and he played for the Mariners!

That makes him double awesome! :thumbup

It was a windy day, and Hammer is a low-end of average OF. Ripping on him for that play is pointless. And if HR is a Marlins fan, then he is far less guilty than the random bulls*** that is spewed on this site constantly about good players that are not perfect 100% of the time.

we could move hammer to first if we deal jacobs and have gonzo play left

Gonzo is even worse defensively out there. I'd rather put Cantu at first and split time at third between Helms and Fredo. We need the defense at third, especially with GB pitchers like Volstad on the staff now.

Or we can call up McFEARson and put him at third
