Stadium on Jai-alai Site?

Featured Replies

guys, this is not yet an official site by the marlins so i have no info on it. if anything comes up, i will post it.

I just moved to Boca after living my whole life in Pines. I'd welcome having the stadium close to me again. :)

i dont like the team going so north (mostly because im in dade, i know im selfish). also... ITS DON FREAKIN KING. if they make any deal with him i hope they reread whatever they sign, every little word or phrase, for months

Face it, the land is cheaper, there's more of it, and it's just a better situation in Palm Beach.

I know that the more north you go the cheaper land and homes get. But PBC = cheap land?

Palm Beach County, FL

Population (Year: 2000): 1,131,184

Metro area: West Palm Beach

Broward County, FL

Population (Year: 2000): 1,623,018

Metro area: Fort Lauderdale

(Broward + PB = 2.75 million)

Miami-Dade County, FL

Population (Year: 2000): 2,253,362

Metro area: Miami

So the larger fan base is, in fact, in Palm Beach/Broward than Miami-Dade.

And like you said yourself, Miami15, it already takes 40 minutes for downtown Miami to get to games, so they pretty much didn't go to many anyway. It was mostly south Broward and North Dade. Now it will mostly be all of Broward and all of Palm Beach, including some more northern and western counties.

You'd rather count on fans from Miami and Orlando making a 3 hour drive to some wasteland than give the fans of Miami a chance.

Before you say we already got a chance:

Imagine living in Kendall.

There are probably 600,000 people there.

How the hell are you gonna constantly make the drive to North Dade let alone Palm Beach County?

You guys really need to step back and examine what you're saying.

BUT WHY BOTHER?

THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THEY ARE BUILDING THE FLORIDA MARLINS STADIUM IN PALM BEACH.

NO WAY!

Think of it this way... the more north you move... the cheaper it is.

This is the most impractical idea I've heard yet.

Forget the debate on the fan base. Let's say Don King decides at age 72 he will perform the first selfless act of his life and gives the Marlins the land. Then what? Who pays for the stadium? Miami-Dade?

Even if this was the perfect site and the land was free, without Miami-Dade, we're still $200 million short.

Forget it. This one ain't happening. It's just Don King trying to get his name in the news.

I know that the more north you go the cheaper land and homes get. But PBC = cheap land? The man who owns it is willing to sell it to the Marlins for a bargain.

since when are rich people big baseball fans anyways?

well if it takes 40 minutes from downtown you lose your ENTIRE fan base from Miami

than it will take how long from Broward? 30 minutes or so? I don't know! How is the traffic?

It will be a nightmare

BUT IT WONT HAPPEN!

GIVE IT UP!

Imagine living in Kendall.

Kendall, FL

I think I'm going to adopt jonny's sig.

Who says that one of if not the wealthiest county in Florida isn't willing to help finance?

Kendall: 75,000

That is the population in the city of Kendall

To tell you the truth I didn't even know Kendall was a city

im talking about the area

but in unicorporated Dade county, Kendall is gigantic and far far away

than it will take how long from Broward? 30 minutes or so? I don't know! How is the traffic?

That's how long it takes now.

But by the time the stadium is done (2007), the construction to widen I-95 EXACTLY where the stadium will be, will be completed, therefore making it an even LESSER drive.

Even if this was the perfect site and the land was free, without Miami-Dade, we're still $200 million short.

Who says that one of if not the wealthiest county in Florida isn't willing to help finance? Then where have they been for the last 5 or 6 years. At least Miami-Dade has made noise about a stadium before, even when the team was bad.

If they were interested, they'd have stepped up before, even if just in the last two weeks. They haven't. Palm beach County is no more interested in building a facility than Broward is.

I would guess they had. It's not like they didn't know it exists. Do you really think Palm Beach is sitting there saying "I'd pay for the stadium but they have to ask me nicely first"?

The current Marlins have not inquired about Palm Beach, or Broward for that matter.

Remember way back when John Henry was owner? One of his choices was Palm Beach, so you know they have to be willing to contribute.

I mean, Miami is only giving up $73 Million. That's not a big contribution by any means, especially toward a financially troubled franchise.

Had a REAL piece of land that they could actually build a stadium upon ever been available?

Why talk with a county that has no land to build on?

Well, now there's land.

Why didn't he follow up on it, especially when the deal fell through in Dade? Do you think he forget? No, it's because it wasn't going to work in Palm Beach, the governments didn't want to spend the money.

Guys, this is not going to happen. Stop it already, MDC put in the bid, Broward said no and Palm Beach has stayed quiet.

Accept the fact the team will stay in Miami and enjoy the baseball. The people of miami will take the loss if they fall off the bandwagon.

The deal fell through because a little thing called "9/11" happened.

It's not like it only effected Miami-Dade and not Palm beach County.
