And his name...is DAN UGLY!

Long-term contract? Nah.

How about benching his friggin ass?

Not only has he returned to his inconsistent ways of hitting, with that long swing...but how many baserunning blunders does it take to bench a guy? Isn't the rule "3 strikes you're out?"

Strike 1: 4-2 game in the 9th, and Danny decides that his run actually matters and attempts to steal 2nd with a "bad ankle" ...against Yadier Molina, of all people.

Strike 2: Monday at SF...Danny forgets how many outs there are in the inning, and is caught at 2nd for a DP. Fortunately for Danny, Ricky pitches a gem.

Strike 3: Today. I know some will blame Bo Porter...and rightfully so, b/c he sucks too. Yet...if you're going to home plate and you see the catcher already has the ball, what do you do? Truck him, right? Perhaps...SLIDE!?! Danny, on the other hand, wanted to show his ballerina moves today, for some reason...just taking the tag, and proceeding to go to the bench, greeted by handshakes.

Combine that with the fact that he's batting .195/.300/.327 since the All-Star Break and .203/.320/.266, in the month of August (which I actually expected from him, sadly)...what does it take to send a message to the "All-Star?"

Can't blame him for that... there are a lot of other things you can blame him for. The fact he had 4 strikeouts in a game is one.

Today hit a hr and was called to stop halfway down the line, he didnt have many options.

He had the option of trucking the catcher.

Plus, the other 2 baserunning blunders are so "Little League" that they make up for Bo Porter being 90% at fault for "strike 3."

it's easy to say "truck the catcher" in the comfort of your computer chair, although I certainly agree w/ the rest

you don't truck the catcher in the 4th inning or whatever it is in a play that is not at all close. Trying to dodge it is the best he could do. I jsut think his "third strike" could of been in a lot of other places.

I think hes deserving of a contract, but i dont want to see him get an extension. He'll bring so much value with his production and i wanna see what chris coghlan can do.

That's why he's getting paid for it, while I'm not.

And at least don't spread the handshakes with your teammates, right after the play.

have always liked uggla...prob since i met him in real life couple times and hes a great person. but i agree though what he has been doing is unacceptable...my dad has also been saying they should send him to triple a to learn a lesson. it is better to lose with a bad team but not with a team that has this much potential

I agree on everything except trucking the cather, the catcher had the ball way before dan even got close to home. You dont truck the catcher on a place that isn't even close. You're risking injury on yourself.

Can uggla play third base?

If anything, it would be Coghlan moving to 3B...if this is what you're trying to imply (for the near future).

Jacobs is gone...I really can't stand him. I mean...I have nothing nice to say about Mike Jacobs.

At least with Uggla, I can say that most 2B wish to slug like he does, and I believe he plays hard on the field. He's just really dumb, and I think he will always be inconsistent as long as he continues with that long swing (the same swing that made him K so many times last year).

I only wish Cantu could teach him about the art of hitting the ball the opposite way. It's actually useful, every once in awhile...

he's not getting paid to take a high injury risk chance in the 4th inning.

What happens if Uggla re-injures his ankle right there? What if he suffers a concussion? Post-concussion syndrom is f***ing hell, just look at Ryan Church this year, the last thing I want any of our players to do is put themselves in a posistion where a concussion could likely happen. Or anything else that's high injury risk for very little reward

How about a slide? The dancing around the catcher just wasn't enjoyable.

You have to admit though...he's made two mistakes in the last two weeks, that little leaguers would probably be benched for. At least recognize the situation, Dan.

SLIDE! Do something. Why dance?

Btw...in all seriousness...can we hire a new 3B coach? Porter's decision making, at times, is mind-boggling.

the chance of being safe on a slide is very slim. And if he goes head first, he risks a hand injury. If he goes feet first, he risks getting beaned in the head his next at bat plus a bitching out from Fredi (who was a former catcher).

I certainly agree with the rest, but Uggla couldn't do much of anything right there. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and say ok, I can't do anything.

Why would sliding feet first be considered disrespectful? Trying your best to get that extra run in the middle of a divisional race? It's not as if feet first, automatically means spiking the catcher.

I don't see how that deserves a "bean to the head" or "bitching" from Fredi.

Uggla's problem's are mental, fellas. He has not been the same since the All Star Game. Psychologically, he's still in Yankee Stadium. While I was watching the ASG and seeing him commit all those errors and strike outs, etc., I said to myself that I hope this game doesn't get into his head. It would not be the first time that a good player has had a very bad game, or series of games, like a terrible NLCS or World Series and gone into a funk after that. Seen it happen in football too, and in other sports. What happens is the player starts doubting his own ability. Such a player becomes hesitant, starts thinking too much at times and at other times plays as if he is not even thinking at all. The player then starts pressing, but the harder he tries the worse things get. He begins to question whether he even belongs on the same field as his team mates. This is what has happened to Uggla since the All Star game. Will he snap out of it, that's the question. The answer is - I don't know. Sometimes they do, most of the time they do. Eventually. But sometimes they don't. I think he will; after the off season this year. And don't laugh, but he might need to see a sports psychologist or a hypnotist; guys do use the services of both you know. The question is, do you give him a monster multi year deal not knowing if you're getting the Dan Uggla from the 1st half of the season, or the guy who has struggled since ASG. That's the question right there!

because the ball was at home before he was even half way down the line

this wasn't some close play. sliding feet first means he's still 99% chance out, while putting the opposing catcher at a huge injury risk.

you might think all that matters is winning ball games, but most every player recognize there's more to life than winning one game. And that's a good thing. Putting a fellow player in a huge injury risk when you have such a slim chance of being safe is very disrespectful.

It's not disrespectful. It's doing your job. And sliding feet first in that instance (if he slides correctly...as in, to the side, he went dancing)...

I've seen players sliding trying to catch the plate more often than players dancing automatically accepting a tag.

Its not disrespectful, its part of the game. Its how baseball has been played for years. You dont think you can make it, so you take it out on the catcher. What next? Is tackling too hard in football disrespectful? So instead of hiting him hard so you make sure he is down, you push him lightly just so he doesn't get hurt?

These players get paid to play baseball. Playing as hard as you can is playing baseball, and so is getting injured. If the players dont want to take a chance of getting injured, then they shouldn't be in the MLB.

Of course there is more to life than winning a ball game, but winning ball games is what their life is about right now, and for the rest of their careers.

What next? Is tackling too hard in football disrespectful?

A purposely hard hit when there's 0 reason for it is, which would be the proper example, yes.

Playing as hard as you can is playing baseball, and so is getting injured. If the players dont want to take a chance of getting injured, then they shouldn't be in the MLB.

Owners aren't giving players millions of dollars to go out there and get injured. No owner, no GM, no FO personal, would want a player doing something where there is a high risk of injury involved. Saying that should purposely do high injury risk things because "they're paid to play baseball" is folly. They're paid to PLAY BASEBALL, which is not putting your body at risk.

if you mean the hook slide, personally I'd put that under "head first" although it's not technically head first, because it's using your hands to try to touch the bag. Which again, is a high risk of hand injury. Look at where molina is. He can easily posistion himself to beat Uggla wherever Uggla is going to try and going. You then having Uggla sticking his hands in fingers into a move person covered in armor.
