Rays have six consecutive games with sub-20k attendance

That six-game "streak" was all weekdays, and affected by school AND Tropical Storm Fay. And even then, we were still 50% higher than the same weekdays last year. During August and September in 2003, the Marlins only got over 13,000 against a non-division opponent on Saturday.

Also, today vs. the Orioles: 34,805. The '03 Marlins exceeded that three times all season.

That happened 1 time on August 1st, when we were a few games back in the WC race and 16 out of first place.

Here are the rest of them.

26,104

20,724

40,414

30,204

Nice try though. Also, good job on still not realizing that are point is that the Marlins were never in 1st place, and that makes a big difference.

Of course, that's not even to mention that you are using one game at the beginning of August against a non-division rival and comparing it to a game at the end of August against a division rival WHILE in first place is ridiculous.

And the 03 Marlins won the world series... go back to your playoff less cave rays fan... go hang out with all the Cubs fans... while us Marlin fans talk about the famous play at the plate in 03, or... as it is in somebody's username.... Renteria up the middle....

hell...we could get a bunch of Marlins, Rays, and Cubs fans and talk about Bartman...... I mean... sh*t...

GO BACK TO YOUR f***ING DOME

oh and so what if we have "less fans" than other teams... its just makes more upset people when we win the world series.. feels pretty exclusive..

Really? They had over 34,000 last night?

So who was there this time, LL Cool J, or MC hammer? Most people know the Rays only get a major crowd when there is a big name artist for the post game concert.

Oh wait, I forgot, when the Red Sox or the Yankees come into town there is always a good crowd. I guess that really doesn't count though, since more than half of the crowd is cheering for the opposing team.

Did you ever think that might be a reason why you have better attendance? It should help, considering the Yankees and the Red Sox come to Tropicana field a combined 18 times per season. I also remember the Cubs coming to Tampa during interleague play.

Once the Marlins get a new stadium, their attendance numbers will soar. I don't see that happening for the Rays though.

i say give it a few years for both teams to get a solid fanbase footing. this is the first time the rays are winning, and it took some time also for the yankees to get to sellouts when they started on this last dynasty. and the tampa sports radio guys on saturday said the marlins attendance won't soar with a new stadium, and somehow, i think they may be right. a roof will attract a few thousand more a night, but i'm not sure if it will double the attendance.

Nobody. It was the Orioles. On a Saturday afternoon.

And we had 32,000 yesterday too. For the same Orioles. And they cheered when the final score of the Red Sox loss was shown, too.

The times, they are a-changin'.

And like I said, Marlins fans have no business making fun of the Rays' attendance.

UPPER DECK PHOTO FROM A GAME THERE WAS A RAIN DELAY AT EH?

and I wanted to re-post this.

Rays probably drew 34000 due to weekend and a concert//

but, overall still more fans total for the year than the fish,

who incidentally also have saturday concerts too....

of the fishs meager attendance how much of that is helped by all those stinkin mets and cubs fans that come to the games, without them our attendance would be worse.....a ton of empty seats today against the braves, huh for a holiday day game,......I am going tomorrow I am guessing 12000 and I am being generous, this is a football town and thats that.....well at least the Yankees come here for 3 next year........so all u guy go and rave about your TV ratings........dammit stop the whining, put down the remotes and go to the freakin game!!!!!!!

i do agree tho that with our attendance, we sure as hell have no right to make fun of anyone else........but damn our TV ratings are GREAT!!!! big deal....go to the freakin games and stop whining

:jawdrop:

i...i just cant believe how bad the attendance is in tampa.

i had no idea it was so low...i thought they were getting like 20-25 thousand a game....boy was i wrong.

holy moly i mean they got a roof and everything. ive been to that stadium and it is absolutely amazing.

wow, what is there to do in tampa? really....go to the damn ballpark....they got 81 wins!!!!

i gotta tell ya, this scares me as a marlin fan...i mean if tampa has a roof and 81 wins...

what says we are going to get attention all season long when the new stadium comes?

after the newness of the stadium wears off we can change our name to the Pittsburgh Marlins, thats what I think will happen, field boxes are 40 dollars or so now, are u guys gonna cough up 70 or 75? oh thats right I watch on TV

I will throw in I think Tampas attendance is pitiful also, just like ours, no more or less.........

yea if we were honestly in 1st place for like 2 weeks or on a 6 or 7 games win streak more people would come especially at this time of the year

up we;d pull in an extra 5000 or so!!!!

You know things are strange when Marlins & Rays are arguing about better attendance.

Seriously though...both teams deserve better attendance than the crap they're getting, night in and night out. Football stadium or not...and yes, that includes me, who has gone to about 4 games max, this year (and my dad and I only plan on attending one more).

Funny though b/c I thought Orlando Rays was also a Marlins fan. Nice to know he's just a jealous Rays fan, however. Always good when people are a little jealous of you.

Dude, seriously. You are completely ignoring both facts and the point we were trying to make.

But whatever.

tomorrow is my 18th games this season and my last....until 9/21 at Yankee Stadium.....we need to drop the crap about TV ratings, and just go!!!

how many rainouts have we had this year? how many torrential downpours that have lasted hours? not that many for sure....I went last week against the Mets and a couple of weeks before that against the Cubbies and 60 percent had to be cub fans and many travelled down from chicago for the series......

the fish drew very poorly in 2004 and 2005 with a good team,....and in 2003 attendance really only picked u around the 15th of sept or so.......everyone hoppin aboard the bandwagon.....really we have no right to belittle Tampa or anyone else for that matter until we start drawing some live bodies ourselves........

doubtful, they will go up but not by a lot........once the newness factor wears off.......gee I think there are times here in fishland where half the fans cheer for the opposing team, the Mets, coming here 18 times sure help, as well as the Braves when they were good, and the cubbies last week.......or the 45000 the Yanks drew back in the late 90s sure helped Marlins attendance back then.........maybe if the dolphins or canes played the Marlins, yeah thats the ticket!

If it was up to me I'd be a season ticket-holder.

But...when I go, I go with my dad.

Problem?

A) Money is tight.

B) My dad is also a Yankees fan. He's been a Yankees fan ever since he got to this country, in the 60's. If it was up to him, he'd have two TV's to watch all 162 games of the Marlins AND Yankees.

That, too, is a problem with Florida. A lot of people already have other teams, from where they were originally born.

You guys had the game on a Saturday afternoon. Do you actually think that if you guys didn't have a dome, you would have drawn 32,000?

Hey! Look at that! I can post an empty picture of a stadium too! Except this game didn't have a two hour rain delay in it...and it wasn't in the 100 degree weather during the afternoon...

thats right.....florida is the problem and i am sure Tampa has the same problem....so why are we picking on them? as for the ones who think the new stadium will cure everything, read Erick comment "money is tight", I am sure tickets and parking will cost twice as much at the new place....so whos gonna go???!!!

As far as the new stadium...I just hope we get it. I think it'll draw good crowds the first year just b/c it will be new. After that though...it'll comeback to the same...as in they will go, if they win.

That's just my opinion, though.

So how well do you think the Nats will do in attendance next season?
