If We Won Out

Featured Replies

Just a scenario. I'm not saying we blew it or anything, because it would've been a miracle if we did it.

NL East:

Philadelphia 90-72

Florida 90-72

New York 88-74

Atlanta 72-90

Washington 59-104

NL Wild Card:

Philadelphia 90-72

Florida 90-72

Milwaukee 90-72

New York 88-74

Pretty crazy scenario. One game playoff for the NL East, then the loser would play in a one-game playoff with Milwaukee for the Wild Card.

Imagine that, win 18 in a row and still need to win a playoff.

exactly, the season was lost in August

thats pretty sick i wish that would of happened

But Dim's right we had a terrible August that if we could of built at least a 5 or 6 game streak would have made the Playoff race a lot closer for us annd we woulndt have needed to Win 18 in a row

and if we had won all the games we would have been 162-0.

They didnt get it done plain and simple.

Lets face it: if it weren't for Gregg's nine blown saves we would have one the division. August was a terrible month for the Fish that brought us down, but it was Gregg that single handedly brought us to where we are now, which is watching the other teams in the postseason.

If it wasn't for the team defense...we would've won the division, as well.

"If's" are nice. Didn't happen...time to move on.

Actually whoever loses between Phillies and Marlins are out of the playoff with Brewers winning the Wild Card. Dumb rule, but it said whichever team lose for the tie breaker for the division will technically be .5 GB from the wild card and is immediately eliminated from reaching the playoff all together. :confused

If we won out while we were on our winning streak, I am pretty sure the Phillies would've had a worse record. But I hate contrafactuals. Fact is, we didn't win out. Good news - we ended the season ending the Mets season and we have the core of a team that looks to make a run in '09.

They changed that rule about 5 years ago when they realized how unfair it would be and that it almost happened once. Now the loser of the Phillies/Marlins NL East playoff would have played the Brewers for the Wild Card.

Here's a link to the rule change. See scenario # 5 ...
