I dont know much about Raynor so I wont comment on him. But I fully agree with ur opinion on Andino. I have made it very obvious I want Uggla to stay and would see it as a major backwards step if he goes only to be replaced by a platoon of guys like Coghlan/Andino/Amezaga.

Big difference between offensive and defensive expectations in the OF, specifically corner OF, versus 2B. Plus the fact Andino is more progressed level wise as a prospect. And if this is attacking my previous post, I hardly believe giving Andino something like 15 starts at 2B over the course of a season is making him a bona-fide "platoon partner." The position is going to be Coghlans, with Amezaga spelling him from time to time, and Andino getting thrown a couple starts. It's all there, all you have to do is read.

Yes, if you are looking at JUST that. The team is going to lose a lot of slugging, and the defense the other guys bring will not make it up.

 

But, when you get three prospects, two of which who will probably be very good, and save $4-4.5 million in the process, it is not taking a major step backwards. It is taking a major step forward for the team not the position.

 

I'd keep him also, but I'm just saying. It's not a big deal if Beinfest wants to trade Uggla. We are covered.

That's the problem. I don't want Andino getting 15 starts (barring injury).

If Uggla leaves (which he will...if not this offseason, then the next) I would expect Coghlan to be ready to play full-time.

 

I don't want a career .258/.311/.368 minor league hitter getting 15 starts at 2B, next year. If that's the case...then that sucks.

 

Quite frankly, I'd much rather have a combo of Uggla at 2B, Raynor at LF than and Coghlan + 2 bench players platooning at 2B.

 

Again...if Coghlan is ready to be the full-time 2B, trade Uggla and get some team needs. I've been a big-time supporter of that, since midseason (you can ask anyone here). However, if we're giving the combo of Amezaga and Andino several starts at 2B...I see no point in trading Uggla, this offseason.

 

Whether it be 2B, 3B, SS, 1B, LF...it doesn't matter. Uggla is a big part of the offense; doesn't matter if he plays 2B (where "normally" the offensive production isn't great).

It's hard to be a bust when you weren't even a top prospect, to begin with.

Andino is nothing but a career minor leaguer / MLB bench player.

Plus, I haven't heard one rumor that has Cody Ross leaving.

 

If that's the case, Ross-Maybin-Hermida would be the OF. And before anyone brings up the "Hermida might leave" case...well, that to me, would be the biggest mistake this organization could make this offseason.

 

I see no point in a small market team letting go of a 25 year old, who raked last year in the 2nd half...and a guy who even in his off-year with injuries, etc., was close to hitting 20 HR's this year. Letting Hermida go for nothing = stupid.

I would have liked him to get more PA this year in AAA, but what can you do. They left him on the bench for awhile. Yea, the ball park is crazy in New Mexico, and it's the PCL, but this is real improvement and he is still young, 24. When Amezaga was 24 years old, he posted a .678 OPS in AAA. He turned out to be alright.

He can play all over the field, he HAS shown a propensity to hit the ball a little bit in the minors, and there is no reason to believe he can't develop into another Amezaga type, potentially with more power. The Marlins should bring in some nominal minor league free agent middle infielder for Spring training, and let Andino and him battle it out, along with the plethora of outfielders (De Aza, Carroll), for the 25th man slot. This is very reasonable, and not a big deal. Not an infatuation.

Yeh Hill is a solid 2B and I was unaware when I first named Toronto that he had a 4 year $12m deal with an option that could run through 2014, that could eventually total $38m. However he has been out since May with a type of concussion that has ended other players careers and at this point there is certainly no guarantee of him being healthy for the start of 2009.

 

Ellis is nothing spectacular but as u said, solid.

What Happens if he struggles vs LHP

what happens now you leave him there struggling or you put in a Righty to try to Do some damage.

Its really the Little things like that that may give him a spot in the Lineup. Unless Mez shows he can start hitting Lefties.

If defense is a priority for beinfest, than he has to keep Ross and Uggla, and get rid of jacobs. We may lose a bit of power when getting rid of jacobs, but the defensive upgrade and OBP upgrade will be worth it.

Amezaga is a career .206/.249/.270 hitter against lefties.

Andino is a career .195/.233/.268 hitter against lefties.

 

It's not going to be difficult for Coghlan to exceed those #'s.

 

If Uggla leaves...Chris Coghlan will be the starting 2B. There will be no platoon. There's no reason for one.

If the team wants to improve on defense, playing Coughlin is not a move in the right direction. Merely inserting Cantu at 1B would cut down on throwing errors, both his and all the balls that Jacobs never picked. Also, putting Maybin in CF and Ross in LF will immediately improve the OF defense.

that's true. if uggla does leave we lose a big part of our offense. unless we get a mind blowing deal i say keep him. i think he will have a better year. but i say put a few more vet arms in bullpen, fix the defense and make it better. take out olsen and put miller in. and yes i believe gaby sanchez should start 1B. also if uggla leaves Cantu can always go back to 2B and Mcpherson at 3rd. well i'll leave it to the FO w/e makes us better. we got the formula all we need is the right answer
