October 21, 200817 yr Just so everyone is aware, early voting in Florida started on Monday. It will run from October 20-24th, and then next week from Oct 26th to November 1st. Run a Google search for your county's department of elections to find out where you can vote. I have the Leon County information in front of me if anyone needs it for the Tallahassee area.
October 21, 200817 yr To anyone in the downtown Miami area -- is it worth it? Are the lines really that long on Election Day?
October 23, 200817 yr Reports in other states (like WV and NC) say that voters who choose the straight-ticket option did not have their vote for President count, because it was as if they didn't vote for President. Vote for each individual race and don't rely on the straight-ticket option, because straight-ticket might not mean what you think it means.
October 23, 200817 yr I don't know if they do this elsewhere, but... In Orange County, make sure you bring your sample ballot with you. It has barcodes on it that will give you expedited check-in. Just have it and your ID out, they'll scan the sample ballot, and your ballots will be sent right to the printer. So much nicer.
October 26, 200817 yr Here's a link for both Miami-Dade: Miami-Dade Early Voting Wait Times and Broward County: Broward County Wait Times I found these to be very helpful. We were going to go to Miramar- the closest to our home; but when I saw the wait times yesterday (Saturday) were 5-6 hours, we went to Hallendale. Turned out to be 3 hours. The wait times are pretty accurate. A note: If you go to the Hallendale site, it is inside (Air conditioned) and there are chairs to sit in the entire time. We will definitely go there from now on.
October 26, 200817 yr South Dade Regional library has indoor seating in the air conditioning. It's a lot better sitting down inside then standing outside in the heat. I was done in about 2 hours. Just a heads up to anyone in the area who's planning on voting early.
October 26, 200817 yr Took me half an hour in Miami-Dade - the elections department in Doral. Felt great voting for Obama.
October 27, 200817 yr I passed by the Stephen Clark building around 4:30 today... and the line was HUGE. I think I'll wait to vote on Election Day.
October 27, 200817 yr Took me half an hour in Miami-Dade - the elections department in Doral. Felt great voting for Obama. Yeah, it did, didn't it? Already sent in my absentee ballot and felt great about it. Well, with the exception of the House race. Let's just say I made my selection before a big story came out. I mean, what the hell is it with my district and elections?

October 28, 200817 yr As bad as wait times may be in early voting lines, I guarantee you it is waaaay better than waiting endlessly on the 4th. Bring a water in a bottle with you to drink and then after it is empty you can pee in it
