October 31, 200817 yr Mike Jacobs was truly pathetic, with a -27 Plus/Minus. That of course ranked him 30th among 1B. Cantu was unranked but still managed a +3 at 1B. (but a -11 at 3B, ranked 29th.) Nice. So basically the 30-35 range is pretty likely. And that's why I want Dallas at 3B for 100+ games. Barring an injury or more trades, I'd be willing to wager that with Jacobs out we will see Cantu reprising his role starting at 3B regularly and Gaby Sanchez the Marlins mainstay at 1B.
October 31, 200817 yr Call this what it really is......a salary dump. A shaky set up man for a guy with 30+ homers.....amazing. I agree that Jacobs is one of the worst defensive 1B in all of baseball but he can hit the ball a long way and there is no guarantee that Dallas McPherson can do that in the show. After all he has whiffed 126 times in only 371 at bats in his major league career and he has a .298 career OBP (Jacobs .318). Maybe they should also move the very overrated guy playing in RF.

October 31, 200817 yr You guys on this board are the most ungreatful duds ever. I truley can't understand all the harsh words for Jake, He gave you 32 homers, 93 rbi's and you guys talk about him like he did nothing for this team. He was part of history, for your team. He caught more balls at his ankels than any other fielder I ever saw. Over his head, way way off line, in the dirt, personally I think Jacobs was fine in the field, range wise he could of done better. Cantu throwing the ball accross the diamond like he was skimming rocks across a lake. Cantu made 22 errors and you all think he's god. Its totally laughable. Cantu had 151 more at bats than Jacobs, and had 2 more rbi's than him. I will laugh my butt off next year when Cantu is at first base and can't streach to get the balls. He is a total hack in the filed. If you think Jacobs was bad in the field and all of you seem to have that opinion just wait till Cantu's yours 1b. Of course the saving grace that will or should help Cantu next season is thankfully he won't have to catch his own balls. You guys are so spoiled with the home runs this team hits that you have no appreciation of RBI's or home runs. 10 more hits and Jake has a 270 average 10 more hits and his obp is 320. The dude was a bum. I dont care how many homeruns he hit. All he did was go up there and swing for the fences. And dont tell me he was good defensively. He was a joke. Half of our infielders errors were from Mike Jacobs. And what we saw from cantu at first base last year tells us that he is a good defensie first baseman. And he is 10 times the hitter Jacobs is. Easily the worst post i have ever read on these boards
October 31, 200817 yr I have my doubts that Hermida will ever live up to what the scouts said about him a couple of seasons ago.
October 31, 200817 yr I have my doubts that Hermida will ever live up to what the scouts said about him a couple of seasons ago. He had a .870 OPS just 1 season ago but yea, he's a lost cause

October 31, 200817 yr RF is a power position and Hermida doesn't fit the bill. He hits a homer every 29.07 at bats and drives in a run every 7.85 over his career which are poor numbers for a corner outfielder. For instance, Josh Willingham averages a homer every 22.57 at bats and a RBI every 6.49 which are way better numbers than what Hermida has put up.

How about looking up his stats before making such an ignorant statemant. And he's only 25. This trade favors the marlins so much. We traded an over rated, swing-for-it-all first baseman who is terrible defensively for a young proven RP with major upside. And Hermida is not over rated. If the FO trades him, it would be a huge mistake.

Hermida's .870 OPS is a number Willingham will never achieve. Hammer is good and very consistent, but Hermida is 5 years younger, a better defender, and his ceiling is much higher. It would be a huge mistake to get rid of him right now unless you get a top package. You mentioned the Pirates in another post. The only player in their organization the Marlins should consider trading him for his McCutchen. Literally. And I'm not opposed to a Hammer-Cody-Hermida outfield opening day, and letting Maybin hang out in New Orleans for a few months. I could easily see them doing that.
