Downtown Stadium Backlash?

Featured Replies

Guys, Dade County owns the land wear PPS is located and the land is leased to PPS Holding Co. for 99 years at a dollar. They could force the issue of allowing the Marlins to build the ballpark in some of the extra land and by the time the ballpark is done, so should the light rail project from MLK Jr. Metro Station to PPS/County Line allowing more mass transit for Dade County people, but the same drive to Broward folk..

Great news on the parking. Just as expensive as the pro and as an added bonus you get the suspense of wondering if your car will be intact when you leave the game! And if you are really lucky maybe some bum will offer to clean your windows for free on the way out (plus gratuity, of course)

As for the handy and useful public transportation... I'm sure all the corporate types debating whether or not to get in on the new stadium season tix will be relieved to know that the crack train will be near-by and convienient.

It doesn't matter what public transportation is really like, it's what the perception is!!!

Just trying to add some perspective.

If the Fish build a new stadium they won't care less about selling mini-pack season tix to Joe Public so he can take his wife and kid to the game.

It'll all be about corporate sales. That's how the Panthers continue to exist with what seems to be poor attendance. Go to a Panther game and although there is only about 37 people there, almost every seat is sold thanks to the corporate dollar.

Hey Broward and Palm Beach fans:fyou

Right back at 'cha MDC fans. You've had the Fish down there for 10 years and how have you shown your undying support? by filling the place up with 10K fans a night. BS. It has been right next to the Dade-Broward county line for the team's entirety. So you know what buddy, your county is just as much at fault as ours is. If not more, since when there are big attendance games the majority of the fans in the stadium are Miami-Dade fans. And what effort have the other counties made to build a stadium? They haven't even dropped a whisper.

This stadium belongs in Miami, and if Broward doesn't like it, then go to DRays games. You had your chance to prove yourselves and you did nothing of the sort.

If a "true fan" should be willing to drive anywhere to support the Fish than why aren't the millions of people in MDC making the 10-30 minute drive?

Fans who come out right now from Broward/PBC are the real fans... Besides, we count for probably half of the attendance now, and we drive twice as far as MDC fans do.

Build it in Miami and watch millions of people wait in line to not show up again. Second verse, same as the first.

You dummies! The stadium is MDC! Sure, but what the f***? Getting to a game heading north on I95 competing with traffic from Downtown is hell. Getting to a game heading south to Downtown opposite of rush hour traffic is much easier. Everyone is saying Miami lost its chance! Its the other way around. Y'all have had the stadium in your backyard for years but you don't go either. Should Loria say "We can't move the team because there are so many people from Broward going to games (7,000) and if there is a stadium there will be less than that"? No! Right now the crowds are s*** - a park downtown could not get any worse. Much more fans will be able to take the metrorail and driving south will be a piece of cake for fans from Broward(Looneyville). If you can go to a game in that dump, PPS, it is 9 miles further to downtown, and if there is no traffic(never is southbound) it shouldn't take more than 14 minutes extra.

f*** BROWARD!

f*** BROWARD! I agree with you. It is much easier for Broward people to go to games. I'm in Broward and I'm there in 30 minutes with traffic. i-595, turnpike and I'm there in no time.

There is really no excuse for Broward, and arguably for PBC.

I want the location that is BEST for the team. Even if is not convenient for me.

Wow! You are one of the only Browardites that sees the truth!

OMG, you're overreacting, dude. There's something called public transportation...a.k.a. METRO RAIL. Let's see, you drive to Palmetto Station, get on the Metro and get off at Government Station. Wow, you spent $3 for parking and $1.25 for your transit pass. Wow.....that's so expensive. ::rolls eyes::

Oh, and your car can get stolen anywhere, hun. It's not only Downtown Miami. So get over yourself because Broward/Palm Beach is not perfect either. As a matter of fact, Carol City is just as bad as Downtown Miami, maybe even worse.

True that!

Yes, there is, and I'm sure it's a great service. But new stadiums are designed to be a magnate for corporate money, and having the Metro-Rail around isn't exactly a selling point.

BS. It has been right next to the Dade-Broward county line for the team's entirety. So you know what buddy, your county is just as much at fault as ours is.

Umm, no. I don't live in Broward, thanks anyway. But your sense of civic pride is commendable.

If not more, since when there are big attendance games the majority of the fans in the stadium are Miami-Dade fans.

What, is your last name Gallup? You walk around games taking advanced scientific surveys of what fans are from where? "Big attendance"? Is that a scientific term? Define "big."

As a matter of fact, Carol City is just as bad as Downtown Miami, maybe even worse.

Yeah, and you don't see them trying to build it in Carol City, either. But then again, I'm sure the Metro Rail would be convieniently located to any site in Carol City.

This stadium belongs in Miami, and if Broward doesn't like it, then go to DRays games. You had your chance to prove yourselves and you did nothing of the sort.

Frankly, the more I think about the more I say you can have it. At least then in a couple of years when no one goes you can fall back on blaming the PBC and BroCo fans for not going.

Umm, no. I don't live in Broward, thanks anyway. But your sense of civic pride is commendable.

Maybe you should specify then.

What, is your last name Gallup? You walk around games taking advanced scientific surveys of what fans are from where? "

You are quick to judge my statement as being false, but can you provide evidence to support the opposite?

Define "big."

Main Entry: 1big

Pronunciation: 'big

Function: adjective

Inflected Form(s): big?ger; big?gest

Etymology: Middle English, perhaps of Scandinavian origin; akin to Norwegian dialect bugge important man

Date: 14th century

a : large or great in dimensions, bulk, or extent ; also : large or great in quantity, number, or amount

Yeah, and you don't see them trying to build it in Carol City, either.

Maybe, just maybe, is that because there already is one there? Because there is that big mass that has a sign that says Pro Player, but I am not quite sure what it could be.

Frankly, the more I think about the more I say you can have it. At least then in a couple of years when no one goes you can fall back on blaming the PBC and BroCo fans for not going.

It'll be fun to prove you wrong. But then again, you'll probably turn tail then anyways and either dodge the people who remember what you said or just deny it.

What, is your last name Gallup? You walk around games taking advanced scientific surveys of what fans are from where? "Big attendance"? Is that a scientific term? Define "big."

And you don't think that the Marlins has hired and/or contracted experts on this matter? Their whole focus is how to atrack new fans and be on the best market. You gotta be kidding me if you think you know better than them.

Fish Fan, have you ever been to the Bronx in NY? Well, let me tell you is the worst neighborhood in the world! People shoot up in the streets in front of you, there are gun fights and armed robberies in the middle of the day, whores walking in the streets at all times and drug dealers force you to buy drugs... But yet somehow with this exagerated stereotyped neighborhood around, people find it easy to go to Yankee stadium...

My point here is there are a lot of your "perceptions" that are utterly exagerated and that when it comes to filling up a stadium those don't count.

As for the Corporate money, there are companies that do buy tickets for their employees or for their clients, but these are a small percentage; the way you put it is as if the whole stadium was bought by Corporate money, that is just plain exageration. :thumbdown

Whatever. Where the hell did I say anything about "corporate money"? I am saying, if you don't feel like driving to Downtown Miami, get your a** on the Metro. I go there every damn day to school and to work and it really is no big deal.

Frankly, the more I think about the more I say you can have it. At least then in a couple of years when no one goes you can fall back on blaming the PBC and BroCo fans for not going.

You know, if we get our new stadium, the team will be in Miami permenantly and I could go to 82 games a year, so I don't care if there are 3,000 people or 36,000 people.

Once we get the stadium it will be hard not to draw decent crowds and if we don't, I don't care.

If you don't draw decent crowds it would be considered a failure because there would be minimal profits which would bring firesales, low-budget team. Same problem as PPS. But since "you don't care" and probably half of Miami has no idea whats going on.

FTL is such an obvious choice it's sickening. Central to both northern and southern fans and all that. It's too bad that BroCo isn't as stupid/corrupt/ignorant/unwise as their counterparts in MDC and won't give a dime to help pay for it.

FishFillet, thats what you want, but thats not what can happen!!

Lets say that MDC approves the funding for the new stadium today. Do you think that Penelas and Diaz and all the rest are going to go to Broward and say "You give us the land and we'll pay for it"? Do you really think that?

Broward ISN'T willing to spend the money. So in other words, you would rather see the Marlins not get a new stadium at all than build them a new stadium in MDC? Thats so stupid. :thumbdown

I've never felt in danger while going to Heat games. A LOT of police around, and being able to have dinner or drink on a decent restaurant/bar is always a plus.

Car has always been intact too.

I must be parking in the wrong lots then...... :mischief2

Broward or Palm Beach will not put a cent for a new stadium. I live close to Kendall and to get to the stadium I need to leave at least 1 hour to watch the first pitch and start praying will not rain. I when to the stadium more than 20 times this season with my family, and watched 9 games under the rain with ponchos.

Miami will be a major league city, we have the team and will have a new field......... we have the international business all over the place. Boca or Ft. Lauderdale will never be a major league city unless another franchise is created.

Which is impossible... both would be wayyyy to close.

Okay, okay... A little rebuttal.

Good job, way to support the team and all that. But the fact is a new stadium is not being built to get people like you (who go anyway) to come down to the games. Your personal anecdotal evidence is heart warming, but really has nothing to do with attracting people to a new stadium.

Lets say that MDC approves the funding for the new stadium today. Do you think that Penelas and Diaz and all the rest are going to go to Broward and say "You give us the land and we'll pay for it"? Do you really think that?

Where did you get that from? All I'm saying is that Broward (And PBC for that matter) aren't as corrupt/ignorant etc. enough to let this type of deal happen in the first place.

As for the Corporate money, there are companies that do buy tickets for their employees or for their clients, but these are a small percentage; the way you put it is as if the whole stadium was bought by Corporate money, that is just plain exageration.

Are you living under a rock or something? Where do you think the Marlins are counting on that 137 mil coming from, Loria selling a few Monet's? Corporate naming rights, luxury boxes and corporate seat leases, among other things.

My point here is there are a lot of your "perceptions" that are utterly exagerated and that when it comes to filling up a stadium those don't count.

Ahhh... But they do count. Like I've been saying, perception is reality. It doesn't matter if people don't go because of some incorrect assumption. The fact is, they still don't go. At the end of the day that's all that matters.

Whatever. Where the hell did I say anything about "corporate money"? I am saying, if you don't feel like driving to Downtown Miami, get your a** on the Metro

People who can afford season/corporate tickets are subarbanites who have money. And suburbanites who have money will not, have not and never will ride public transportation. Most of them would rather not go. You can jump up and down arguing until you are blue in the face that Miami public transpo is the greatest thing since sliced bread and it doesn't mean a thing.
