X.Nady?

Featured Replies

I dont know anything about his contract but i really like this guy...

Play good LF or RF and hits for avg. and power...

What do u guys think...

Pudge...Nady...i'd like 1 more solid guy in the pen and were good....

We'd definatly be a contender

Nady>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hermida srcub

not gonna pay Nady though

how much is he set to earn? with only one year left, he may not command too much value in a trade, but I can only imagine his contract is too fat for us, like every other decent veteran.

We would have to give up too much for him IMO

exactly what i was thinking. The Yankees just traded to get him at the trade deadline, they would want A LOT in return for him. It would be a great deal for the Marlins. We wouldn't have to lay all of our cards on Hermida, and since his contract is up at the end of the year, we wouldn't be investing a long term solution in him. I still feel we would have to give up a West/B+ Prospect as well as an MLB ready player for him. To get Nady, we would basically have to cut into our minor league system a lot for a 1 year solution. If we should go after any position via trade, it needs to be a true starting catcher.

I disagree. Why would anyone overpay for Nady when there's a FA market flooded with OFers that are just as productive?

I'm saying it would be a good deal to get a guy LIKE Nady, but the problem is how much we would have to give up to get him.

But you state there's a large OFer FA crop to go out and get, who? Griffey, older and basically a bench player nowadays, Bloomquest, Posednick, who else?

Its not a large as you make it out to be, we still need an insurance policy. At this point it looks like we'll be keeping Amezaga as that insurance policy, but to get a guy like Nady would be great, but it would HAVE to be for the right price.

And my point is I think you're overestimating what It'd take to get him. If the Yanks were moving him to try and get Manny, they'd sell him off to the highest bidder just to get him out of NY and open up a roster spot. That, along with the fact that there are a lot of similar FA's still available for reasonable prices, don't bode well for his value.

You really believe the Yankees are seriously in the Manny sweepstakes? They are using Manny to try and see how high of value they can actually get for a Nady. Nady is a very good young up and coming player, it would take A LOT from our minors system to get him, and it would take even more now that they gave up a portion of there minor system recently to get him to NY.

And as for free agents at his level, very doubtful. All the good outfielders besides Manny are signed already.

Your not going to find a .300 25 HR 100 RBI guy currently in free agency, all you are going to find are 4th outfielders who will give you .250 10 HR's 60 RBI's and maybe some speed off the bench.

He's 30 years old (maybe 29) and has basically been a platoon/utility guy... ~.780 OPS career... a nice player... but by no means your description

Also, last year's numbers were "inflated" by his .330 average in PIT which is .050 points higher than his career. He's not come within 20 points of .300 in any other season of his career.

Exactly. His value isn't nearly what some people are making it out to be IMO. How is he any more valuable that Josh Willingham was besides his ability to play a few positions? Offensively there isn't much difference.

Nady has a good 5 more years of productivity in him. Willingham has a history of back issues, Nady doesn't have nearly the injury history Willingham has. Nady is coming off a good year, probably had a tough time originally adjusting to a new team, just as Cabrera did with the Tigers. I'm not saying to go trade for a 4th outfielder, but Nady would be a good pickup. Our more likely person to get is a Bloomquest, but to get Nady to platoon with Hermida or eventually take over the job would be great. Coming off a good year, Nady may be primed to an all star season.

Nady's value would only be higher than Willingham's due to health, which it should be. But when healthy, they're very comparable players, and I don't feel Nady would be worth anything great.

And Nady didn't waste a second adjusting to a new team. In face, the second he joined the Yanks he tore it up.

Nady isn't a bad player, but when talking about trading for a guy that we perceive as a 4th outfielder it's silly to not look at a guy like Griffey instead, who would cost us nothing to sign (not talking about $$). Plus, even though he is old, we are talking about a future first ballot hall of famer, the absolutely star of his era. Even if its slightly a novelty, bringing in a guy like Griffey would be outstanding for the organization.
