Dempster Released by Reds

Featured Replies

The Reds released ex-Marlins pitcher Ryan Dempster today. I guess there was no reason to keep him. He won't pitch in 2004 because of TJ surgery and he'll finish 6 years of service at the end of next year (I think) making him a free agent anyways.

It's really a shame the way his career tanked, starting from even before he left here. Some of it may go back to that beaning of Vazquez.

(This is another topic that maybe should go in the mlb forum, but he is an ex-Marlin ... )

sign him.

agreed

Theres the TJS But that would be he will not ask for much and i am sure he would love to go back to the Marlins...

What a shame. He looked like he could be a #2 or 3 starter a few years ago. Just goes to show how quickly fortunes can change....

He is very Cheap now. We should sign him and he can come to the bullpen or something. I just want him to comeback how he use to be, but coming off Tommy John he wont be the same anymore.

not like we need pitching.

You cant never have enough Pitching :whistle you cant never ?

:D

I feel bad for the guy, he seems like a great individual. In addition, he represented us on an All Star game.

I guess our FO has a very good eye on when pitchers start to decline (i.e. Dempster and Alfonseca).

The Encarnacion deal looks better than ever . . .

his old slider was devastating

It was ranked only behind the Unit's in the NL. TJ has done wonders for many pitchers...

dempster needs a mazzone to put him back together.

Funny, I can see him in a Braves uniform.

But yeah, I think Ryan would be welcomed back here warmly. Hes a great clubhouse guy and who knows what could happen when he comes back from TJ. That slider could be nice if he was coming out of the pen.

Think about it, maybe if things turn out well we'll have that starter becoming a dominant lights out closer after Tommy John. Except his name won't be AJ Burnett.

If the price is right, it is a win-win situation. If he doesn't recover, he finishes a Marlin and gets to do something else for the rest of his life. If he recovers successfully, he could be the rock on which the pen lies. Definately worth the gamble.

If The Fish did Sign him. Him, AJ, and Spoony will have alot to talk about ;)

Isnt Dempster Supposed to be Ready around next September? and Spoony?

you guys are like a bunch of nostalgic coons. he's horrible now! we don't need to sit around waiting for another arm to heal if it's pretty clear that he hasn't been the same the past couple years. we don't even need him anymore.

His arm was all messed up, that is why he was throwing so bad. Maybe he comes back well, you never know, and it isn't like you'll be spending top dollar anyways. He is worth the risk.

I can see him in a Yanks uni now come to think of it.

Dempster can still be great. Especially in Pro Player.

The Great American Launching Pad did nothing but hurt him.

I remeber his days as a Marlin. He was so good untill we traded him for Encarnacion. It was A BAD trade at the time, He was pitching real good back then. Now we got the better deal with his arm trouble and Encarnacions solid years here.

It was abad trade then?

I sure as hell didn't think so.
