Who was there to watch the scrimmage at Jupiter today and what did you see?

Any doubts that Michael Stanton is the real deal were erased in Monday's intrasquad scrimmage on field two behind Roger Dean Stadium.

 

The 19-year-old outfield prospect crushed two tape-measured home runs. He took lefties Renyel Pinto and Dan Meyer deep on shots that may have combined to measure 1,000-feet.

 

Stanton also had a chopped single that he tried to stretch to a double. He was called out sliding into second in a scrimmage with no umpires. The view from the bleachers looked like he was safe.

 

Pinto was impressed by Stanton's strength.

 

"I've never seen a ball hit like that, never," said Pinto, who hung a changeup. "It was like two seconds and it was out."

 

Pinto struggled in his first game experience, but after he missed about a week with a stomach virus, he should be back on the mound on Wednesday.

* Chris Volstad threw three innings, and he is in line to next start on Friday.

Thanks for the report on the scrimmage. Nice to see Stanton pounding some major league pitchers, even if only Pinto and Meyer. I look forward to watching Stanton play in Marlins stadium some year soon.

Apperently Lindseys homer was crushed and Volstads run was unearned Andino had an error on a grounder to lead off an inning.

Lucky you. I have a pretty full schedule for today. But if I can arrange it correctly I may be able to stop by for a couple innings. I know I have to be in that area today, just not sure if I can schedule it at the right time.

 

BTW If you haven't been to RDS yet this year, they have changed a couple things. Like the type of things you can bring into the place. They want you to buy food and drinks there. If I go I'll be stopping off at my fav deli before I get there (off Blue Heron Blvd). Last Friday they didn't have the main concession stands open on the Marlins side, just the Cards side. And there wasn't any fresh squeezed lemon aid either. That bummed me. I don't know if that's the way it will be for the rest of ST, but it wasn't a good thing, IMO.

Wow, That's complete BS. Ramirez is in his own level when it comes to hitting, and Reyes is the starter. Stupid, Stupid Managing.

 

Hanley was DHing and Reyes was starting at SS because right now he has the better glove. Dosen't seem so stupid to me. Let's see what happens in the next game.

 

Just as an added note. Jimmy was on the bench all game while Jeter played SS. That's bad managing, IMO. This early split the time up. Too many innings playing defense this early. And besides, Rollins is better defensively at this stage of their careers.

No, Hanley will most likely be the DH. That article is wrong, as it seems to still think that Pujols will be playing (he won't), most likely putting Ortiz at 1B with Reyes's superior glove at SS and Hanley's superior bat in the DH's spot.
