March 18, 200917 yr Hanley Ramirez is the latest to join Florida Marlins' injury list By Clark Spencer VIERA -- The injury report for the Florida Marlins continues to grow more ominous. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez did not make the trip to Viera and was scheduled to have a doctor exam his sore right shoulder in Jupiter. Meanwhile, manager Fredi Gonzalez said the team has shut down right-handed reliever Scott Proctor, who continues to experience discomfort in his surgically repaired right elbow. Ramirez has not played since Saturday, when he was used as a designated hitter in Fort Myers. Gonzalez said the team's All-Star shortstop took ground balls Sunday and was scheduled to make the trip to Viera for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. But Gonzalez said Ramirez told him at 2:20 p.m., about 10 minutes before the team bus left Jupiter, that he didn't feel like he could play. The Marlins immediately set up an appointment for Ramirez to see a doctor. ''We want to make sure it's nothing serious,'' Gonzalez said. 'I can't give you much information because we found out at 2:20 and were leaving at 2:30. He came over and said, `I'm not feeling real good.' Usually it's the other way around. He wants to go in and play.'' Proctor had been throwing flat ground for the past couple of weeks since trainers detected loose scar tissue associated with his elbow surgery last fall. Gonzalez said there is a strong chance Proctor won't be available for the start of the season April 6. He said Proctor would not throw for the next several days. The Marlins also are without Alfredo Amezaga, who has a sprained left knee, and closer Matt Lindstrom, who is on no-throw status with a strained right shoulder. Both Amezaga and Lindstrom sustained their injuries while participating in the World Baseball Classic. ''It seems that's the way it goes,'' Gonzalez said. ``We haven't had anything. All of a sudden, one week -- bam! -- you've got three or four guys [hurt].'' http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/breaking...ory/956700.html
March 18, 200917 yr Author Injuries mount for Florida Marlins Shoulder bothers shortstop Hanley Ramirez; reliever Scott Proctor likely to miss Opening Day Ted Hutton |South Florida Sun-Sentinel5:39 PM EDT, March 18, 2009 VIERA - Injuries to key players continue to mount for the Florida Marlins. Wednesday manager Fredi Gonzalez said shortstop Hanley Ramirez's shoulder continues to bother him. He remained in Jupiter with the rest of the team scheduled to play the Washington Nationals Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Marlins were scrambling to get him to a doctor this evening. Gonzalez said Ramirez came to him 10 minutes before the buses left for Viera and told him he was wasn't feeling well enough to play. Gonzalez also said relief pitcher Scott Proctor, who had resumed throwing this week after a sore elbow forced him to quit pitching earlier this month, will be shut down totally for at least several days. Proctor had elbow surgery last October. That means Proctor, expected to be the Marlins setup man, will miss the start of the season, Gonzalez said. The Marlins also may be without closer Matt Lindstrom and versatile utility man Alfredo Amezaga for the start of the season due to injuries they sustained in the World Baseball Classic. Lindstrom has a strained right rotator cuff and Amezaga a left knee sprain. Ramirez has not played since Saturday, when he was the designated hitter in a game against the Twins. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...0,4585602.story

March 19, 200917 yr Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) has been diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis and is listed as day-to-day. This qualifies as positive news after Ramirez was scratched from the lineup Wednesday. "He?ll be fine. He should be good to go in a couple of days," Marlins president of baseball operations president Admin Beinfest said. "It sounds like a play-as-you-can-tolerate thing." Source: Palm Beach Post
March 19, 200917 yr Down with the WBC. stuff like what happened to Lindstrom and Hanley could just as likely still occurred if they were playing in regular spring training games, it's not like Hanley got nailed with a pitch in retaliation from the Puerto Rico national team and got injured
March 19, 200917 yr Down with the WBC. stuff like what happened to Lindstrom and Hanley could just as likely still occurred if they were playing in regular spring training games, it's not like Hanley got nailed with a pitch in retaliation from the Puerto Rico national team and got injured True, yet the mind tells me that the way they go about progressively working towards the season in spring training is different than the extra energy and intensity that they give in the WBC. So, to me, it seems that the process increases the chance for these injuries.
March 20, 200917 yr Down with the WBC. Nothing to do with the WBC! Eh...we probably could get rid of a lot of this WBC hate if we had the WBC after the WS, rather then at the beginning of the season, though.

March 20, 200917 yr Down with the WBC. Nothing to do with the WBC! Yea it does. Article at marlins.com explains it. I don't much care for the WBC but the getting injured thing is way down on my list of reasons.
