Alonzo Mourning's #33 retired

Featured Replies

great honor, he was a great player, but an even greater person. He more than anybody deserved the honor to be the first Heat player to have his number retired

merge this thread if you want, but felt it deserved its own.

I've had the honor of meeting him a couple of times. Great player, great person, well deserved...

They should have used the throwback jersey, though.

very nice half time event for Zo. He deserves all the praise he gets. He is a superstar, and an even better person. God bless him!

I forgot to record the event, does anyone know if they will repeat the game?

Jackson said they'll put it again at the end of the game, or at least recap it. I'll tune in either way lol

good for zo. here's hoping we see timmy up there next to him within the next few years

Well deserved. One of the few athletes who walked the talk about helping out in the community and being a positive role model. Also one of those rare guys whose bravado never exceeded his skill and work-ethic. Not that he lacked bravado...he just backed it up!

and then Wade and Beasley in a some years down the road.

:thumbup

I'll never forget the only encounter I had with Zo. It was in 1994 when he was on the Hornets. My family was on a trip to Philadelphia and one afternoon, we came back to the hotel and saw the Hornets getting ready to load the bus to play the 76ers, we didn't even know they were staying at our hotel. My brother and I ran back to the room to get a paper to try to get autographs. Turns out the Hornets were staying on the same floor as us. We were getting autographs literally in the hallway with no one else around and out pops Zo from the room next to ours. My brother asked him for an autograph, and he looks at us with an attitude and says "After the game." We werent even going to the game and there was no other autograph seekers around, so we were pretty crushed.

I'm glad to see that he turned out to be the person that he did.

Really cool ceremony. It was a wonderful way to close out the career of the Heat's first true franchise player. Well deserved. Timmy has to be next. He was every bit as important to those mid-to-late 90's Heat teams as Mourning was.

ill be in springfield at his hall of fame induction...hopefully i can meet him there...but zo is my favorite basketball player of all time...the night he scored 50 on the bullets...i got his jersey for my birthday...

zo was the man in all ways...best of luck in retirement big man...do your thing
