Giants sign 3B McPherson

Featured Replies

According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants signed third baseman Dallas McPherson to a minor league deal. McPherson will head to extended spring training and then Triple A. It's a nice opportunity for the 28 year-old, who slugged 42 home runs at Triple A in '08. If the signing is a success, the Giants can retain McPherson in future years as an arbitration-eligible player.

The fact that you bring that up really makes me question it. The Marlins really do have a nack for kicking the roiders out... so far as we know. Either that or they are all too young to do roids... and they usually start when we trade them :p

i'm not sure why they released him. maybe mcpherson wanted to start and the marlins wanted him to be the backup corner IF and OF and he wasn't happy. but whatever it was i'm glad bonifacio is our 3rd baseman and hopefully mcpherson doesn't get called up and have a monster year for the giants.

Shouldn't this be in the minor league forum? :ninja

Not really.

Not really.

Shouldn't it though? He got signed to a minor league deal and is getting sent to AAA.

How many other major league type names signed minor-league deals this off-season and ended up in this section?

He'll be with the Giants in a month. Book it.

What Rab said.

But I was not really concerned with housekeeping. More making a point to all those who cried over the release of McDallas. The guy apparently does not belong in the Show, and it isn't only our dumb organization who thinks that.

Consider it booked. :thumbup

PS - If my fiancee looked like that I wouldn't post her on a forum to be ogled by horny teenagers. But to each his own. Congratulations, anyhow!

He's going to an extended spring training, in no way does that mean he "doesn't belong in the Show"... nor do I see how it would imply that at all.

I don't know if he belongs in the Show or not, but they've already stated that he's going to AAA after extended ST.

I don't deal in implications, PWG. The article specifically says that he will not be called up in the immediate future.

That still doesn't support your assertion that anybody thinks he doesn't belong in the show. He needs to get into playing shape, he hasn't played in weeks now, it'd be irresponsible to just drop him on ANY ML roster.

'doesn't belong in the Show' was probably too strong a statement

at the same time, this underlined segment can be interpreted to mean the same thing as 'he doesnt belong in the show right now'

anyway, what I meant to say is that ball clubs are not exactly lining up for his signature, as some of the release-reaction posts would have led you to believe.
