April 16, 200917 yr I don't know where Nny's original post is, but to piggyback him once again, Pinto was extremely lucky when he had the aforementioned MLB success. I'm not convinced he can be more than very average over the long-run. Kensing probably has more upside, IMO, although they both K nearly 1/inning.

Even when he was having success, he was walking a lot of hitters. When you walk a lot of hitters, and you give up HR's, "dominant" isn't the word for you. Basically, they seem to show the same potential. If one were to ask me who has the better stuff...I'd actually go with Kensing.

But, *gasp* this is just a visual observation, since their relevant stats are pretty similar. Actually, Kensing's HR/9 is higher than Pinto's. And Pinto's WHIP is a good chunk better. And both are the same age. Maybe I would stick with Pinto........
April 17, 200917 yr But if Kensing is out of options, and Pinto isn't, then what? Personally, I would keep Kensing.
April 17, 200917 yr usually these thing sort themselves out, someone else will be injured, or a trade or something like that
April 17, 200917 yr Kensing is basically = to Pinto. Both K a lot. Both walk a lot. Both HR a lot. Kensing would be gone before pinto because of 1) handness and 2) service time. Kensing is up for his second year of arbitration, Pinto is up for only his first. I think it's unlikely Kensing is here next year, and I think it's unlikely Pinto is too although I think he has a lot more staying power than Kensing does. Next year we should have a lot of arms ready to take over in the bullpen, ones that'll be making the minimum. Also, everyone in our bullpen outside if Lindstrom is out of options.
April 17, 200917 yr If we release Kensing, and he clears waivers, we would be on the hook for his salary. If he was picked up, they'd still be on the hook for $260,000 as the new team would take on the minimum. I don't think the Marlins are going to waive a quarter or more million dollars. Maybe they could trade him for a non-prospect in a minor salary dump. Someone probably wouldn't mind to take him on as a 6th or 7th RP with some room to grow, but who knows. There is also the very real possibility someone gets hurt in the next 6 weeks, or Penn/Meyer implode and suck. And this is also assuming the Marlins get anything out of Proctor this year. Like someone else said, these things just kind of work themselves out. We can't project what's going to happen with all these moderate arms. It'll be a game time decision if/when Proctor decides he can still throw a baseball.
