April 20, 200917 yr Then I started getting stuff of "room for improvement/potential"...normally, top prospects get that treatment. Maybe this is where the disagreement started. That ISN'T typically reserved for top prospects. I think that is the disagreement. And it is. (At least players with more potential than Bonifacio)
April 20, 200917 yr He does that quite often. It's especially funny when he takes a liking to a player and throws stats out the window in favor of trust and how he FEELS about him. And this is about Matt Lindstrom, who, oh btw, I still haven't changed my opinion on. No, this is about arguing that a 21 year old kid who had a 8.39 ERA in the bigs should be tried as closer a month after he got sent back to the minors.

(At least players with more potential than Bonifacio) Sir, players at that age a routinely sent to AA and AAA to work on things. Seriously, all the time.
April 20, 200917 yr Bonifacio draws walks in 7.5% of his professional PAs, that is .075 OBP, which would make a .280 BA seem fairly OK given the guys base running prowess. I happen to think that Maybin leading off with Bonifacio in the 9 hole is better, but that doesn't mean I consider Bonifacio anything other than an asset.

Or that an 11 game winner in the big leagues at the age of 23, as a rookie, should automatically go to the bullpen. Remember Rab? :lol Btw...not that he did well...but Tucker only threw 8 innings, as a reliever. You know who else was sent to the minors last year, at one point? The inconsistent Matt Lindstrom.

You do realize Ricky had 13 appearances out of the pen that year, right? And his ERA was an entire 1.00 better as a reliever than a starter? Do you think that might have had something to do with it? I don't think you thought at all. Also, I said that about Ricky BEFORE he broke out. Did I say something ridiculous after his first month that he was better for the pen? No, that would have been stupid. You said this about Tucker AFTER he already had a 8.39 ERA. And you didn't mean it for the future, you meant it for then.

You do realize Ricky showed a lot of potential in the minors, and you don't just stick an arm like that in the bullpen, right? Would you like to see Andrew Miller in the pen now too? And yes...I was excited to see him get a save opportunity. I've never denied that.

Senor RollEyes, once again somethings sounds super funny coming from you. Didn't Ryan Tucker have potential in the minors? So why don't you roll eyes yourself everytime you mention him changing from a starter to a reliever?

Tucker has the potential to be very good out of the pen. And you are right here b/c I have no problem with him, currently, starting. However, since he prefers the bullpen, and we have one of the best young staffs in the big leagues, with some other options on the way up (like Sean West)...I expect to see Tucker in the pen one day. Speaking of this "future closer" stuff...why hasn't Jose Ceda pitched this year?

Speaking of this "future closer" stuff...why hasn't Jose Ceda pitched this year? Ceda is hurt. And let my just defend myself one more time for the Nolasco opinion (which no one would even know if I didn't mention it because it wasn't anything I had ever posted, but many other had thought about on here). Don't think about what he did in 2008. What's so strange about saying a young guy with two plus pitches, who had elbow problems twice in 2007, who had been our 5th best starter in 2006, and who had a 1.00 lower ERA, 0.70 higher K/BB, 2.0 higher K/9, 0.150 lower WHIP, would be better as a reliever?
April 20, 200917 yr If Bonifacio is nothing more than a utility player, why not start testing it out now, instead of giving him AB's in the minors, hoping he magically improves? Btw, Chris Coghlan > Emilio (in case this is for..."Boni could be our future 2B" stuff). Because it's not "magically" improving. Because players his age often improve their BB/K. This isn't outlandish. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. This is why players of his age get sent to the minors. CUZ THEY IMPROVE AT THIS AGE. It's not just top prospects that get "the treatment" And again, if you don't want him on the bench, fine. That's not why a big deal is being made out right now, it's because you were (and still partially are) arguing things people never say.
April 20, 200917 yr Raul, Erick...take it to PM. These are all Marlins related discussions, not sure why they would have to be held in PM.
April 20, 200917 yr You are both just reiterating the same things over and over. Atleast it gets my post count up.
