Lets try this again

I am in the position of trying Hermida or Coghlan at leadoff for a little while but i dont think hanley moving back would be the worst thing.

Hanley's been doing great at 1st, most importantly with Hanley more hesitant at stealing head first than he was in his rookie season, I would rather now see him emerge as a dominant hitter rather than spend some of his energy worrying about base running. We need to find a combination that works fast. We all know Hanley will be 3rd, Cantu 4th, after that it is kind of up in the air. Putting Hermida 2nd at the moment is the right move, and its likely that soon Coghlan gets games leading off, but seems Fredi is obsessed with Boni first (speed kills). Right now we really don't have a player I would really trust batting leadoff, but batting Hanley leadoff right now just doesn't seem right, he needs to stay 3rd.

Hanley is being wasted in the 3 spot. It's that simple. This team, as a whole, cannot hit. This pretty much diminishes any RBI opportunities.

If "no one else" is hitting, then it doesn't matter where Hanley hits, leave him at #3... I would like to see Coghlan get more playing time and some more ABs and see if he can handle the 2 spot at some point...

I think we should keep Hanley batting 3rd

its funny how this topic comes up when the team starts struggling to get wins and score runs

when we were 11-1 and Hanley was batting sub .300 in the 3 hole, how come no one wanted to move him then? because we were winning?

moving Hanley to leadoff alone will not cure this teams horrible BA ank K numbers. They need to find a legit leadoff guy that will compliment the rest of the lineup.

If no one else is hitting, then we would best served to give Hanley as many at bats as possible by batting him leadoff.

If our leadoff guy and most of our team aren't hitter, then Hanley is "wasted" at the 3 spot. When he does his awesomeness we already have 2 outs, and the rally can't last long.

So, we'd be better served putting Baker and Hermida, guys who have been good at not making outs, in front of him.

If you're going to make a lineup, make the right change, not the wrong change because part of the lineup is already flawed.

The premise should be to construct the best lineup, not necessarily the best lineup that leaves Hanley at the #3 spot. Lineup studies have shown your best player should bat 2nd, not 3rd. However, I agree that Hermida, Baker, Hanley would be a vast improvement and is probably the best option we can expect to see. Should it fail we shouldn't continue cycling through our options. We should consider utilizing Hanley's awesomeness higher in the order. Hanley at 3rd is not and should not be written in stone.
