Well, for one, in the bottom of the 6th...with the bases loaded & 2 outs, he let Andrew Miller hit. Andrew Miller didn't even get through the 7th b/c with 2 outs and a man on, Fredi felt it was necessary to bring in Brian Sanches against the great Steven Pearce (who, oh btw, was lifted for lefty Brandon Moss, anyways. Luckily, this one worked out). He also decided in the 8th up 5-3 with 2 outs & a man on 2nd to bring in Pinto over Meyer in the LOOGY situation against Adam LaRoche.

Say he was smart for doing it then knock him for not doing it?? Count me confused. Some little facts that you apparently forgot. No one had even stretched, much less warmed up in the pen in the 6th. Andrew had given up only 2 runs through 6 and one of them on a solo bash, with a fairly low pitch count. And he pitches much better at home than away, at least that's where he gets his wins. Their pitching coach came out to the mound before Brett's AB, so it became obvious then they would pitch around him to get to Andrew. It was also the only time Brett made it on base all night. Pinto K'd LaRoche on 6 pitches. Meyer was going to close out this game. Plain and simple. Not much sense in stretching that to 1.1 innings. Brian Sanches has been very reliable for us. About the only thing I can guess that our "clueless manager" did wrong was not to throw an arm up there in the bottom of the 6th as a decoy to make the Pirates think twice about walking Brett. Any arm would do. But even then the more plausible situation would have been for Brett to make the 3rd out, leaving our pitcher to lead off the bottom of the 7th if he made it through it. PH the pitchers slot in the bottom of the 7th regardless of what happens. You will have your opportunities to bash away at Fredi. This ain't one of them.

Tough call either way. But even when it was still a 3 hit game, him and Andrew got players of the game at the stadium. One thing I would like to see change is our speedsters trying to steal 3rd. Hanley got caught the other night with 2 outs. I don't see much sense in that. Chances are very high they score on a base hit anyways. Take second and then let the guys behind you do their job(s). It's irrelevant but it looked like Boni had that base. The radio guys also said that after they watched the replay a few times it looked like he was in there before the tag. Turns out it didn't matter much. He was on base 4 times, stole a base, and scored twice. Another nice night. Looks like all that extra work we keep hearing about is paying off. The guys at MLBN have even noticed. Of course the first 2 or 3 game slump he goes into.......... BTW Not into their music all that much but KC and gang put on a heck of a show. First concert I have stayed for this year. Fireworks display was also exceptional. Not a bad hat either. Very nice night at the ball park.
