Our biggest problems

Featured Replies

Okay I know the Marlins are in second place but there are things that Fredi Gonzalez can change to make this team a true contender. There are various factors that are affecting the Marlins playoff hope and I just wanted to share my thoughts and what you believe is the biggest problem in the team.

1. Emilio Bonifacio - Okay he is fast and he is fast... thats it. Bonifacio is not supplying us with consistent ABs, has a low batting average, is a liability at 3B, and has a .299 OBP. I mean Mike Jacobs could have supplied a better OPS!

2. No love for Gaby - The front office has refused to give a chance to Gaby Sanchez who can give this team a boost. He has adequate power can drive in runs and somewhat reminds me of Mike Lowell with less defense.

3. Fredi Gonzalez - Questionable calls, Wierd Lineups, etc....

4. Front office- Okay before people start bashing me with this (Hermida lovers).. you nedd to understand stats and production. Last offseason we traded Josh Willingham for Bonifacio when we could have traded Hermida who was had one good season and that was just the second half of 2007! 2006, 2008, and now 2009 have been a bust with Hermida when Willingham could provide 20+ HRS each year. His OPS this year is almost 1.000 and has almost the same amount of RBIs and more HRS than Hermida in a reduced bench role with the Nationals. Also Dallas McPhereson/Mike Jacobs could have been much better than Bonifacio. They would combine for 35+ HR in a platoon with Jorge Cantu and provide atleast a .800 OPS which is better than Bonifacios.

How do you platoon two left handed "I can only hit RHP" batters?

It's none of these things.

The problem is that our offense seems to not know what the word consistent means and the pitching always finds one really bad inning in almost every game but after that they are solid.

We don't know if Gaby comes up and hits the crap out of the ball or ends up being a slower Bonifacio.

Hermida has been doing fine when platooning with BC.

Jacobs and McPhearson suck but Hammer would have helped.

The FO is more concentrated on the new stadium right now and there's not that many good trades right now.

And Freddi doesn't kill us every night and has his good moments every now and then.

Has Dallas McPhereson even played a game yet this year?

Nope. I haven't seen any reports on him in the past, like, two months but if he's still not playing I wouldn't be surprised if he has to retire at the end of the season.

Thats why we need to give Sanchez a shot MarlinPride

Don't talk to me then talk to the FO because I've been wanting to call him up for a while now.

Our biggest problem is we have no veteran starting bat. Tell me the last time a team won with just about all young all or nothing player. Teams dont win with young players like this. We could use a guy like a Fredi Sanchez and a Scott Rolen, but that will never happen because we wont pay for anyone. We wont win anything with this team

Not many teams are willing to pay 11 Mil a year for Scott Rolen at his age but he is having a great year and I doubt the Jays trade him for anything less then a prospect and either a replacement or a pitcher.

If we could get him and only pay a fraction of his salary that would be a spectacular acquisition for this team imo. Him and Freddy sanchez and i think we make the playoffs, but wont happen.

We'd be lucky to get one and there's no way in the world that we get both.

Our biggest problem has been inconsistency. From year to year and game to game. From starts by our starting pitchers to scoring runs.

I couldn't agree any more. This sentence about sums up our entire season, and the 46-46 record epitomizes how our season has gone thus far.

Totally agree esp scoring runs

If we were willing to pay for them then we def. have the prospects to get them. Not the great ones but besides morrison, dominguez, and stanton, and maybin, im sure we could get them if we want to pay them. That and we have ml guys who could net them. Guys like uggla, hermida, maybe even a ross if we feel the prospects are ready. Point is, if we really care about winning this year, we could. Well, at least if loria cared then we could.

I don't think a guy who hasn't played more then 115 games since 06 and is making 11 Million dollars a year is worth a 2 Time All Star 2nd Baseman and Prospects.

And you can't say that an owner, GM or anybody in the organization doesn't care about the team because they could not get a trade done.

No, but he is worth a guy who is almost 30, getting paid 5 million, can hit with risp for his life, is a bad fielder with very poor range, especially if they pay his contract.

They are not going to pay his contract if they are getting a player who is doing worse in return. No body is really that stupid.

But what happened to him being so valuable??? if he is such a good player then he could get us rolen. I think a priority next year needs to be getting a proven established big league starter.

Why exactly would toronto want Uggla when they have a guy locked up by the name of Aaron Hill?

I never said that we should trade uggla to toronto. That was the other guy.

Yes You did.

If we ever trade for a POS like Scott Rolen then I will be very angry. The guy has a Barry Bonds size ego and has been a clubhouse cancer wherever he has played. He was ran out of both Philly and St. Louis for under market value just so they could get rid of him...do you know how hard it is to get ran out of St. Louis?
