July 31, 200917 yr It's gotta be Victor Martinez to the Bo Sox. Yes Peavy may be the best player to be traded, but he is currently injured and doesn't help the White Sox for a bit. Victor Martinez will allow the Red Sox to finally end their relationship with Varitek, and Martinez projects to be the DH long term on the Red Sox. He is still one of the best hitting catchers in the league, moving to a lefties favored park will help Martinez alot.

July 31, 200917 yr VMart without a doubt, for the present and future. this gives them versatility because he could replace varitek as the catcher or ortiz as the DH or even play 1st with youkilis at 3rd if lowell continues to decline
July 31, 200917 yr I'm going with Peavy. If he can return in August and help push the ChiSox over the top in the AL Central, a staff featuring Peavy, Buehrle, Danks, and Floyd will be formidable in the playoffs.

August 1, 200917 yr i think that he dodgers acquiring adrian gonzalez would have been a unanimous pick had it happened. Jon Heyman reports that the Padres almost dealt Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez to the Dodgers for James Loney, Russell Martin, Blake DeWitt, James McDonald and Ivan Dejesus. that would have been quite a haul.
August 1, 200917 yr I'll go with Washburn to the Tigers...this gives the Tigers a solid 1-2-3 in the rotation. Nick Johnson to the Marlins is also a huge upgrade, and we barely gave up anything to get him. I don't see why the Red Sox NEEDED Victor Martinez, but it won't hurt them...btw, I'd just like to add that the Red Sox have the most annoying and hypocritical fanbase in baseball.

They've talked so much sh*t about the Yankees being the "Evil Empire." They're no different. This offseason they gave out contracts to the likes of Penny, Saito, and Smoltz, and you can argue that none of those panned out (maybe Penny, but that's about it). Yet, it doesn't matter. They have so much room for error that it really doesn't matter.
August 1, 200917 yr The Red Sox really came out on top yesterday. Think about it, they got one of the premeir offensive catchers in the game without giving up their best prospects. The Indians waited until the last minute to trade Martinez, at which point they HAD to deal him, and the Red Sox were basically the only suitor, so they could pretty much dictate what was to be included in the deal.
August 1, 200917 yr I actually think it's a toss-up between Washburn to the Tigers and Johnson coming to the Marlins if you look at actual upgrade. Peavy won't be healthy for at least a few more weeks, and no one knows if he's even going to pitch well when he comes back. Getting Martinez was a great move by the Sox, but if you look at it, he's actually not having that much of a better season than Varitek. And Cabrera going to the Twins was an upgrade, but not a huge one. Washburn gives the Tigers a solid rotation and fills in the hole they had at the 5th starter. Johnson is also a bigger upgrade than most people are making it out to be. We had the worst starting 3rd baseman in the MLB, and now we're getting over .200 OPS points better in the lineup.

August 2, 200917 yr Yeh I know it didn't happen on Deadline Day but the Phillies getting Cliff Lee is the biggest deal in my eyes.
