Dan Meyer for Closer

Featured Replies

Why don't the Fish just put meyer at closer. We did it earlier in the year and it worked if i remember correctly. He pounds the strike zone and has 41 Ks to 13 BB. And he has a good cutter fastball. Our ideal 8th and 9th with a lead would be:

Calero - 8th

Meyer - 9th

Discuss..

...and when he blows a save who should we put in next? Let it go already if Nuñez can't do the job a change will be made but it was one Blown save

correct. Then everyone will call for Calero as closer. And then Sanches, and Pinto. And after that maybe we'll just start over again with Lindstrom.

I completely agree. Lindstrom got almost half a season to "adjust" to his closer role.

I trust Sanches more than any of the rest. He's my closer.

He's pitched in to many low leverage situations to trust. He has been solid though and has started to be used in more of a mid relief role.

Leave Leo as closer til he completely blows up and then we'd probably go closer by commission after that with Kiko and Meyer.

Fixed, agree otherwise :thumbup

Yeah thanks I knew that wasn't the word.

Don't use him as a close, that would be a waste. He's our best reliever, IMO. Yes, better than Kiko. Or at least on the same level.

They are pretty close.

Meyer: 2.47 ERA 43.2 IP 1.01 WHIP

Kiko: 1.91 ERA 41.2 IP 1.10 WHIP (Not inlcuding tonights game)

You can't really say one is better then the other, the only slight difference is that Meyer allows more hits but Kiko walks more batters so it evens out.

For now like I said before keep Leo as closer until he has a complete meltdown of 2 or 3 consecutive Blown Saves then after that go closer by committee with Kiko and Meyer with Leo getting a chance here and there and if he finally gets it down and has 5 or 6 consecutive solid outings then we can try Lindstrom again.

This.

I personally like Leo at closer, granted he is shaky and has a GS here and there. But his stuff his electric and oncehe he gets everything under control he could blossom into a dominant closer or setup man. He is still 25, soon to be 26 on the 14th. I will take 47 K over 51 IP anyday of the week. If he can even get close to what he did back in KC, he would be the clear-cut closer for the Marlins. I know he was mostly the set-up man or 7th inning guy in KC along with Ramon Ramirez and never recorded a save, but I think he if he got back to those numbers Nunez could be a great closer.

Putting a lefty to close when you only have two of them is dumb. Pinto would be in charge of all the left handed duties before the 9th, not down for that. Even if there's four straight rightes coming up in the ninth you'd throw Meyer out there anyway, its almost wasting a him. when there could have been 3 or 4 crucial circumstances in the game where you could use a lefty but you can't because he's designated for the 9th.

BTW, closers are overrated, the fireman are the most important relievers on the team. Closers come in with nobody on base, with a 1-3 run lead. Fireman come in with bases loaded one out in the 7th or 8th, men on 1st and 2nd no out late in the game. When would you want your best reliever to come in, with runners on 2nd and 3rd no out or up by two runs with no body on base but with the extra pressure to close out a game?

Exactly.

The more "closers" who implode, the better. At some point, perhaps the entire idea of a "closer" will implode. Outs are outs, and the guy who is most likely to be able to get them in any given situation is the guy who should be pitching, regardless of inning.
