October 4, 200916 yr I can't believe what has happened in the AL Central over the last week. The Tigers have pretty much looked like shoe-ins for the division over the last few months but they have choked big time - losing 6 of their last 10 and including their last 3 straight. All they had to do was win a game over the last few days and they have just looked pathetic and lifeless, like they're not even playing for a postseason birth. Cabrera went 0-4 tonight leaving 6 men on base. Tomorrow the Twins take Pavano to the mound against the Royals and the Tigers do have Verlander going against the White Sox - both SP's on short rest. If they are still tied after tomorrow, they will have a one game playoff in Minnesota on Tuesday (not Monday due to MNF). I really hope the Twins take this, I don't think Detroit really deserve it anymore after the last two weeks.
October 4, 200916 yr This has been a good race and I'm hoping for a playoff but I don't think either team will make it past the 1st round of the playoffs facing L.A. or N.Y.Y.. My money is on Detroit and Verlander over the White Soxs.

Yeah, the drama on the last day is nice, but it sucks to know that the Marlins would've clinched today, had they played in the AL Central.

October 4, 200916 yr This is why baseball is great - play 161 games and a division race comes down to the final day of the season.
October 4, 200916 yr I actually think if Detroit makes it they have a good chance to beat NY. Minnesota on the other hand not really. ps. its just Sox,and the singular is sock.

If the Twins make the playoffs I think that is when they will really feel the effect of not having Justin Morneau in the lineup.
October 5, 200916 yr From Yahoo sports, hadn't heard this about Miggy and Tigers By reportedly heading out for a night of drinking with the opposing White Sox on Friday night before returning home early Saturday morning and getting into a domestic dispute with his wife, Cabrera abandoned both his team and fans in some of the worst ways possible. How can anyone trust or root for him after he blew a Breathalyzer test (.26) that was double the number of hours remaining until a Saturday night game that could have prevented the need for the Twins showdown? (The Tigers lost, 5-1.) How can Dombrowski continue to play a player he had to pick up from the police station that morning? Might explain the 0 for and all the runners left on base

True but a couple of more drinks and your talking about an obituary for alcohol poisoning

True but a couple of more drinks and your talking about an obituary for alcohol poisoning His blood alcohol would have to be like at .45 to poison him, not exactly a couple more. BTW, I'm not defending drunkenness, I happen to not drink myself.
October 6, 200916 yr Author I think the point here is that the Tigers are in the midst of a crucial weekend series to clinch the division and their best player is out drinking something fierce until the wee hours of the morning. He then proceeds to suck the next day, which was probably the most crucial day for the Tigers to win. What a moron.

Players from all sports have done much worse and people do not seem to care. Of course if they fail to make the playoffs he will be a scapegoat.

October 7, 200916 yr Author Hell of a game so far. Tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the ninth. Nathan just got a huge DP to keep the game tied. Go Twinkies!
October 7, 200916 yr Author Inge just saved the game for Detroit with a diving stop. Going to the 10th inning.
October 7, 200916 yr Author OMG!!! What a game!!! Twins tie it, and with 1 out and 2 runners on the corners, the Tigers get a DP including throwing the lead runner out at home on a sac fly attempt. This is one of the best games I've seen this year. We now go to the 11th!
October 7, 200916 yr WOW that play at the plate was close. I thought the runner was safe. When it was live I thought he was out, but after the replay I think he might have gotten his hand in there.
October 7, 200916 yr This has been an awsome game. You can only hope the rest of the PO are like this.
October 7, 200916 yr Author Casilla did a heck of a job with the slide considering the throw had him by a mile. It was such a close call that either way the decision went I wouldn't have been upset.
