October 9, 200916 yr Since this seems to be a thread dedicated to it, posts from the Wiley and Fox out thread Surprised since they went that route with Trahern that they didn't just flat out release him, since he'll be out all next year and will then become a MILB FA if we don't protect him on the 40 man. Though, I guess it also gives them a chance to access how he's responding to his rehab to see if they want to then protect him, and they view it worth the MILB contract he'll have. Also somewhat surprised we didn't just outright Davidson, suppose his injury is real serious then. He's obviously not someone special but always like to have LOOGY depth in AAA. We knew proctor would happen since like May though, and Andy Gonzalez is far from a surprise. We're now sitting on 39 men on our 40, with 4 guys looking at free agency (NJ, Gload, Kiko, Donnelly*), so that gives us 4 spots to protect rule 5 guys and 1 spot to draft with, while still having plenty of other guys to shed. Time to go searching for lou's post of our rule v guys haha. *would really like to see us offer him something like a 750k ML deal. Dude absolutely brought it this season. And I imagine he takes it, since he probably gets a 750 MILB deal in free agency. Ok locks to be added 1Winters 2Cousins 3Morrison Then Raynor, Allison, Burns, K. Harvey, Mobley, Penn, Sinkbiel I'd say we probably protect Penn from becoming a Free Agent (Had a good year in NOLA). Raynor we probably protect simply because a team might take a Rule V flier on him even after his horrible year. I mean, worse come worse, he's an awesome 25th man PR with decent potential, why not take him? Probably should be up in locks. Doubt Allison, Mobley, Burns, Harvey, and Sink have done enough to warrant Rule V protection, though only real Q being Sink with "first round pick" still tatoo'd on his forehead.
October 10, 200916 yr Scott Procter, the reliable veteran arm we needed out of the pen. That story didn't turn out right.
October 10, 200916 yr Not Davidson, he had the Marlins highest batting average and highest ERA a rare double threat

That's pretty much the list. We've gotten rid (Coghlan added, Thompson traded, G. Taylor already passed through waivers so clearly an after thought, etc) of a lot of guys who would have needed to go on. I'd say those 3 are 100% locks, as well as Raynor, and it's just a toss up if Penn, Harvey, or Sinkbiel get the 39th or 40th spot after the coming trades and new player acquisition. We're going to get to 30 really fast when we start cutting Calero, Johnson, Donnelly, and start moving Amezaga, Uggla, Hermida, Nunez, etc. I don't think we're going to have a problem in this area thankfully. No "Cruz" cuts this year (who was just put on SD's 40 man, as a RP in the PCL 52.2 IP, 2.56 era, 1.33 whip, 53 K, 2 HR, 1.65 GB/FB, .195 BAA. Frustrating).
October 10, 200916 yr Scott Procter, the reliable veteran arm we needed out of the pen. That story didn't turn out right. Or the dumb FO move that backfired even worse, because they failed to get anyone else to help out and put all their eggs in Proctors basket, even with his health issues. DUMBEST MOVE BEINFEST MAY HAVE EVER MADE.
October 10, 200916 yr No not David Davidson!!!!!.He and John Karonka were my favorite Marlin players. I preferred John Johnstone to David Davidson.
October 11, 200916 yr Ok so Trahern is gone, del cruz is gone, Rabelo is useless, Badenhop has been so-so, we really need Maybin and Miller to kick ass
October 11, 200916 yr I thought Trahern was outrighted to NOLA not let go. Besides he's recovering from TJ so I suspect the reason he could be removed from the 40 man without fear was it's doubtful someone would risk their roster spot on him. Admittedly the likelihood he returns and brings value to the trade is tenuous, but enough players have come back that it's at *least* worth not shutting the door on the possibility he can still be productive.
October 12, 200916 yr i love how nny called me dumb for saying trahern didnt really have a future, yet not hes saying that hes surprised that they didnt release him.
October 13, 200916 yr i love how nny called me dumb for saying trahern didnt really have a future, yet not hes saying that hes surprised that they didnt release him. He blew out his arm. He was an obvious drop and stash from the 40 with that kind of injury.
October 13, 200916 yr And I called you dumb for wanting to DFA people to have a prospect sit on the bench for a month.
October 18, 200916 yr Goodbye LHP John Koronka, SS Andy Gonzalez They filed for free agency Surprised A-Gon didn't re-sign since he would still basically be our, like, 26th man. I didn't really like him though. And I assume we tried to re-sign him since we outrighted him first. If we didn't want him we'd have just released him before.
