November 4, 200916 yr I'm honestly surprised that you guys in the Bull Pen weren't talking about the Mayoral race. As part of a sizeable anti-incumbent fervor, Joe Sanchez, who was a supporter of outgoing incumbent Manny Diaz, was beaten by Tomas Regalado. Regalado was the city commissioner who opposed both the new Marlins ballpark and the waiver to expedite its construction. He said the focus of Miami should come off huge public works and onto creating jobs. "When I speak of our great city, I do not envision a metropolis," he said. Which is funny, because another thousand or so would be without work without the stadium.
November 4, 200916 yr I don't live in Miami, but thanks to the stadium deal, I have watched my fair share of Miami commission meetings. This guy is a complete tool. Good thing the stadium is already being built and there is nothing this guy can do about it!
November 5, 200916 yr Aside from the marlins stadium issue, he was the superior candidate hands down. I went to all the debates this year, and Joe Sanchez makes grammatical errors when speaking that make him sound like hes taking sophomore English in high school. Inexcusable for a guy that was raised in the U.S. Not only that but his own commission district voted AGAINST him 4 to 1. Sanchez was in the pockets of the developers. If you drive down the Roads, all you see is empty 30 story + condominiums in what should be a queit residential district. I'm not saying Regalado was the best guy for the job, but he was the better alternative by far.
November 6, 200916 yr Yesterday I read that over half the city employees make over $100k a year which is incredible given that Miami is among the poorest cities in the country... 28.5% of the population is below the poverty rate and the per capita income is $15k. My head was about to explode with anger when reading that. Way to go labor unions!!!!
November 6, 200916 yr Author Just one thing: be glad the stadium was approved before he got elected. :mischief

My head was about to explode with anger when reading that. Way to go labor unions!!!! Not to mention that the city of Miami fire department, the top dogs make in the 250-300K range yearly. If you cut those salaries down to at least 100K you can hire several new firefighters.

Hahaha, except we don't need two presidents, but we sure as hell need more firefighters.
