March 9, 201016 yr Saw this at Sun-Sentinal.com from Juan Rodriguez A reunion? It's a long shot, but don't rule out the Marlins making a late spring play for Mike Lowell, who they traded to the Red Sox in the Ramirez-Beckett deal. Lowell won't appear in his first Grapefruit League game until this weekend. He has to show his surgically repaired thumb and hip are healthy before anyone gives him a sniff, but the Marlins have discussed the possibility internally. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/florida-marlins/fl-marlins-spring-0309-20100308,0,6578766.story

March 9, 201016 yr Author I would be very happy with a Mike Lowell reunion As would I, always considered him one of my favorite Marlins, and a real leader on the team.
March 9, 201016 yr the red sox would have to pay almost the whole remainder of his deal for this happens. because they're is no way the marlins FO would pay anything more than maybe a million for him.
March 10, 201016 yr This is more of a feel good story than an actual immense upgrade. But I would rather give him 400 PA versus Jimenez/Lamb/Richar/Murphy/etc so why not.
March 10, 201016 yr It really depends on which Mike Lowell we get, the healthy but aging veteran who can still bring a crowd to it's feet or the shell of his former self who wears the same name on his back but not much else. Let's see what he shows in the few weeks of spring training left and how his medical reports look before we all jump on the Mikey Lowell bandwagon and that's said by someone who is 100% for bringing him back if he can could actually contribute in the field and at bat, and finish his career a Marlin.
March 10, 201016 yr On the team's web site, dated 3-8, Frisaro says the exact opposite. To me, it dosen't make much sense to bring him back. Not that I don't have have fond memories of him, just doubt very much it happens. I believe our 3B for 2010 is already in camp. 1B may be a different story.
March 10, 201016 yr I would like to see him back if he is 100 percent healthy. He would be a solid player possibly off the bench and rest Cantu at third and whoever is at first. He was one of my favorite players when he was here.
March 10, 201016 yr Hitting at Dolphin's stadium is not the same as hitting in Fenway. He would never have the numbers he had in Boston, nor the numbers he had here while he was the man with the Fish.
March 10, 201016 yr I'm all for it. Put Cantu at first and let Gaby and Logan develop at their own pace.
March 10, 201016 yr Count me in as one of those who wouldn't be cheering his return. I still vividly remember the suck that was Mike Lowell in 2005 and how he torpedoed the Marlins playoff chances that year. There were other factors, sure, but if there is one player who deserves most of the blame for that season it is Mike Lowell.
March 10, 201016 yr I'm all for it. Put Cantu at first and let Gaby and Logan develop at their own pace. Gaby Sanchez is not a prospect anymore. If he's not ready now, he'll never be ready. I think Gaby can put up similar, if not better, numbers than Mike Lowell, really. At a much cheaper price, too.

However, in the time he's had he has not shown that he is a capable hitter at the big league level just yet. I know he hasn't had much playing time, but putting him at first without any idea if he will do well is a big risk.

Yeah, the '05 season was a lost opportunity for a lot of reasons, and one big one was Mikey's awful year. But I don't see how you can actually "blame" him - it wasn't like he deliberately bombed. I do agree with those who say he might not be any better than others we could play at third, but he wouldn't be bad and it might bring more fans to the stadium. That can't be a bad thing.

I doubt this remark even more than I doubt he is coming here.
