Posted March 30, 201015 yr I know it's a month away, but I've got a lot to talk about regarding this draft. Right now, I'm praying for Dez Bryant to fall to #12, but today it was reported he ran a 4.32 forty yard dash, so that probably solidifies he goes either 10 to the Jags or 11 to the Broncos. Now, it seems to me, that it will be a decision between Earl Thomas, Brandon Graham, Dan Williams, and Jason Pierre Paul. BTW, if we draft JPP, I'm going to hurl in just about the same way I hurled after we drafted Ted Ginn. I'd be ecstatic about Bryant, but I wouldn't be sad about getting Thomas or Graham. Graham is in the mold of Lamar Woodley and fits the Dolphins system perfectly. Earl Thomas may be a bigger ballhawk than even Eric Berry, and although Berry is obviously better, there isn't a giant difference between the two. With some of the options, if Bryant is gone, I'd prefer seeing if we can trade down into the early 20s, as we can probably draft Graham then and get some extra picks. Highly doubtful we'd be able to do that though.
April 1, 201015 yr bears dont draft til day 2 so ill be watching to see how my hawks are represented. all of our departing seniors/early entries should wind up on an nfl roster. bulaga, spievey and edds should be drafted on day 1. richardson, angerer, calloway and moeaki on day 2. love draft day
April 1, 201015 yr Bryant didn't run a 4.32. He was in the 4.5s. Everything is shaping up according to plan. He's being painted as a diva receiver. A "bad guy". This will cause him to drop to number 12, where the Miami Dolphins will draft him.

(and I'm not just saying that because some mocks have him falling to the Jets at #29...:mis2)
April 1, 201015 yr Author I'd be ok with Thomas, but he is very good, I think Bryant's ceiling is as an elite WR in the league. I understand people's concerns over character issues, but isn't "character issues" the same reason Percy Harvin fell last year? What happened to that guy? Oh yeah, he won rookie of the year. Dolphins haven't interviewed Bryant, but they had two scouts down at Oklahoma State's Pro Day to watch him. With all this talk, Bryant could very easily be taken by the Browns, Raiders, Jags, or Broncos well before we even draft. My plan B would be Thomas, then plan C is trade down into the 20s and take Brandon Graham. EDIT: When I posted the 4.32 time for Bryant, that was unofficial. Anyway, they say Bryant forgot to bring his cleats to his Pro Day, so he wore some that weren't worn in, thus he was slipping during his 40 yard times. Even considering that, a 4.5 is a very good time given Bryant's size. His cone drills were pretty bad though.
April 13, 201015 yr Author http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/04/13/1577767/dez-bryant-a-diamond-in-the-rough.html Armando wrote a great article about Dez Bryant. I recommend you take some time out to read it.
April 14, 201015 yr Author Now it seems like Miami will probably have to make a decision of whether to draft Earl Thomas, Jason Pierre Paul (hate him), Dan Williams, Derrick Morgan, or Sergio Kindle. I wish they would look at Brandon Graham, but he isn't the prototypical LB Parcells and Co. go after. My hope is that the Cowboys fall in love with Dez so much that after the Broncos pass on Dez Bryant, that they will be so nervous that he won't fall to them that they will trade up to get him, hopefully landing us a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round pick.
April 14, 201015 yr Brandon Graham is still on the radar. His size doesn't matter. If this regime feels he is good, they will draft him.
April 14, 201015 yr Brandon Marshall is much better than Boldin, Welker, etc. I understand they only traded for his negotiation rights, but at least they got to negotiate a contract at "fair market value". I think it's a good return given Marshall's issues, but if he had Tom Brady's character, I would think he would have fetched a 1st and a 3rd.
April 16, 201015 yr have seen a few publications that have tony moeaki going to the dolphins in the 4th. that would be quite a get. was the top ranked tight end coming out of high school... battled injuries his whole career but had a very good senior year and was double teamed every game. ferentz said hes the most complete tight end hes ever coached.. and thats saying something since dallas clark played for the hawks.

April 17, 201015 yr what are the point of mock drafts for random people? i know its fun to do and all, but we all realize that there is a trade within the first hour of the draft that always messes up the thousands of mock drafts that have been done in the past year.
April 17, 201015 yr Author Some may see this surprising, but I honestly believe Dan Williams will be the surprise player this year to fall out of the first round. I think he's a very strong NT and probably the only first round true NT in this draft, but I don't see any of the teams (except maybe the Dolphins) drafting a 2 down player that early.

I think he's a very strong NT and probably the only first round true NT in this draft, but I don't see any of the teams (except maybe the Dolphins) drafting a 2 down player that early. The Jets, I think, would grab him SO fast as the heir to Jenkins' throne if he were to fall. Some issues/though I had with/about your mock: Wow, you have Bulaga falling far. The Titans are supposed to be in love with JPP, so I'd expect to see him go there over Griffen, who is not yet a complete player (but massively talented). Pouncey will be a Center or a Guard in the NFL, not a tackle. Iupati doesn't fit the Falcons' needs. They need OT more than OG, and OG is Iupati's best position by far. (He really struggled at OT in the senior bowl). The Jets would grab Dan Williams or Jared Odrick before they would take Jerry Hughes. Odrick is an absolutely perfect fit as a roational 3-4 DE/NT who would provide excellent depth now and eventually start. And many feel Hughes isn't suited to be a 3-4 OLB. I also think they will sign Jason Taylor, so they can go BPA here, and that would easily be Williams or Odrick, given your mock. Here's a cool site, even though I'm sure it's not perfect (i.e. I don't think the Jets should draft a RB unless they trade Leon Washington or one is absolutely staring them in the face as tremendous value; OL is easily a bigger need): http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/04/14/examining-each-teams-draft-needs
April 17, 201015 yr I hate the sound of Nose Tackles in the first round. If I'm the Jets, I draft Jerry Hughes. I think he is a perfect fit in a 3-4. And just imagine what Rex Ryan could do with him. He will be what Gholston wa supposed to be. Or, they could pick a cornerback. Maybe Kareem Jackson or Kyle Wilson.
April 17, 201015 yr Re: Jerry Hughes. I'll refer you to this link. Just read the first post. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=54458&highlight=Hughes I still think Williams or Odrick would be absolutely terrific value for the Jets at #29. I would love if Iupati fell to them. He could replace Faneca this year or next and save us a ton of $$ to resign/extend Revis, Mangold, D. Harris, D. Ferguson, Cromartie, and B. Edward/Holmes. I would be totally thrilled if Kyle Wilson fell to the Jets (and Williams/Odrick/Iupati were off the board). They would be totally stacked at CB, then (I know you don't like Cro haha; also Dwight Lowery would be a very good dime back, and they'd be stacked then). A guy like Odrick would actually probably see the most time on the field out of anyone the jets could pick up with their 1st-rounder (assuming they sign Jason Taylor). They have at least a decent starter and just about every other position (barring injury, of course). One definite exception would be if Earl Thomas somehow fell into their laps. He would start over Brodney Pool, I would think.
April 22, 201015 yr I'm very anxious about it. I think the Skins will do something most don't expect. My best guess is they will draft Berry. All signs are pointing towards Okung but I don't think it will happen that way.
April 22, 201015 yr Author Now today is the draft. I got some Dolphins draft nuggets. It seems Stephen Ross, our owner, wants to draft Dan Williams, via reports. Jerry Hughes is rising up the draft boards and he is rising extremely quickly, very likely could be the pick at #12. Some of the Derrick Morgan talk is wearing off. I've never been a huge fan of him, wouldn't hate it if we draft him because it fills a need, but he doesn't scream superstar to me either. My personal opinion is that the best possible pick for us would be Earl Thomas, however a major component that is stopping us is that there are going to be some very good FS's left in the 3rd round (Major Wright seems like an obvious pick there if available), but the OLB and NT pool is extremely thin after the first and early parts of the 2nd round. So the Dolphins may really like Earl Thomas like I do (and many other Dolphins fans do), but due to the talent in the later portions of the draft, we may have to take a less talented player simply because the positional needs at OLB and NT are far more pressing to get in the first round than FS. As for the Later Rounds, for FS, look for Major Wright, Reshad Jones, or Morgan Burnett to be the main Dolphins targets. At NT, Cam Thomas or Torell Troop if either manages to fall really far. Cameron Sheffield seems to be the only OLB that I can think of that the Dolphins have really targeted for the later rounds (4-6) Also, for a surprise later round pick, look at Mike Williams at Syracuse. I remember watching him and saying "This guy reminds me of Percy Harvin so much, should be a guaranteed 1st round pick". Then he went off and quit the team after a car crash he helped cause. He may not be the most respectable guy, but talent wise he may be the biggest steal in the draft in the 4th round, and would be skeptical to get him, but happy in terms of value. BTW, I'm still hoping we take Earl Thomas, but based on certain reports it seems very unlikely at the moment.
April 22, 201015 yr I think Seattle should trade the #6 pick for Rothlesburger and then get Dez Bryant at #14. That would be quite of offseason if they did.
April 22, 201015 yr Author I think Seattle should trade the #6 pick for Rothlesburger and then get Dez Bryant at #14. That would be quite of offseason if they did. Very doubtful that is even being considered. The Seahawks have been in a desperate search for a LT since Walter Jones retired, and now that they are drafting #6 in a draft where the best OT's are expected to go early and often, it is pretty close to guaranteed that they are going to take Russell Okung if available, but more likely will take Trent Williams and will be ecstatic about it. However, if the Seahawks wanted to make a splash and tell their fanbase they want to win right now, the move you suggest would be perfect. Would easily build major excitement within the organization.
April 22, 201015 yr J-Lo was on Jay Leno and said she wants Dan Williams I wonder if Reshad Jones and Morgan Burnett will last until the 3rd round. If you guys still had your 2nd, you could have probably grabbed Nate Allen. I still think Dan Williams is the right pick, but I certainly see the appeal of Earl Thomas. I would LOVE to see Jerry Hughes picked early, because it would probably mean that a different D-Lineman would fall to the Jets (Odrick, Please!).
