June 13, 201016 yr According to Miami Herald: -- Left-hander Hunter Jones has been placed on the disabled list at Triple A New Orleans and the word there is he might require Tommy John surgery. The Marlins obtained Jones from Boston over the winter for Jeremy Hermida.
June 14, 201016 yr Not good news, especially if it means Pinto and Tank are the Marlins lefty specialists
June 14, 201016 yr Not good news, especially if it means Pinto and Tank are the Marlins lefty specialists Name a single problem with Tank as a LOOGY. He's 1-11 with 2 BB and 5 K's vs LHB not to mention his .222/.313/.347 line against them in his career.

One out. Don't let him stay in there for a whole inning just because he did well in getting a lefty out to begin the inning. As he has proven time and time again, things will unravel.

Anymore than that and anything seems to kinda happen to him.

He's fantastic as a lefty specialist, it has nothing to do with how many guys he sees, it has to do with how Fredi uses him.
June 14, 201016 yr We lost nothing in Hermida and it seems we haven't gained anything really so far in Jones

Oh okay as long as he doesn't have to face right handed batters, he's a great pitcher!?! Good thing there aren't a lot of those in the majors.
June 15, 201016 yr And now for my next trick, ladies and gentlemen, I'll change the topic up for debate! No one said he's a worldbeater; however, he should be fine as a LOOGY, which is all that was asserted.

And in a division with all of the left-handed killers like Utley, Howard, Dunn, and others, LOOGYS are more valuable than ever.
June 15, 201016 yr Oh okay as long as he doesn't have to face right handed batters, he's a great pitcher!?! Good thing there aren't a lot of those in the majors. Uh, did you see your original post in this thread? You said it was a problem if Pinto and Tank were our only lefty specialists. Normally, a lefty specialist is only supposed to face lefties, hence the reason they call them lefty specialists. For some reason, you changed the topic...
June 15, 201016 yr Yeah, what Erick, Mystikol, and floridafly said. It's similar to Paulino. He's so valuable to this team because he's great vs LHP and sucks vs RHP.
June 15, 201016 yr Okay maybe I didn't make myself clear so here goes. Back to the original point, this team is in deep $h!+ if Tank is one of the lefty specialists. It then meandered to how effective he is, when in fact he really isn't. He's rarely used as a lefty specialist and even then has a tendency to have trouble with those. Apparantly everyone is in agreement that he has no business pitching to right handed batters, so bascially he's ineffective as MLB pitcher unless he pitches to just one lefthanded batter and much like Pinto again back to the original post. Now it will be Rab and others turn to point out how effective they are by posting a crap load of stats, but it boils down to this when either of these two enter the game are your first words "Oh S--- here we go again."? Its not really a slam on them as much as the front office for giving the bullpen two LOOGY's that a moments notice can impload a perfectly pitched game.
June 15, 201016 yr He's actually been pretty damned effective against LHB. It's not his fault he's not used properly. I don't think you understand what LOOGY means.
