July 31, 201016 yr 6-5 giants top 9th, 1st and 3rd, TWO outs Scoreboard watching at this early time is just going to get you in trouble. In 3 weeks it could be the very team that you're rooting for now that has jumped out to a big lead. Bottom line, this team needs to win at least 2/3 to have a hope of making the playoffs. If we do that, we'll see a couple weeks before the season is gonna end who the team we actually need to beat is.

If I have to end up rooting for that team in 3 weeks, so be it; I will still be rooting against the top dog. IF indeed my rooting for a team had any effect on the outcome of a game, then I will root in a way to maximize our chances. If not, who cares.

Well I'm not trying to bring any superstition into this, just trying to point out the way things usually work in baseball. If you enjoy it, then have fun. I save the scoreboard watching for football because the season is so short.
July 31, 201016 yr Since the All Star break, we're 10-5 Yet we're being out-hit 137-111 Even in the 10 games we've won, we've been out hit 82-77, which includes a one hitter lol. And in those 10 games we've won, we've only out-hit the opponent twice.
July 31, 201016 yr All that means Nny is that this team is finally starting to show some power. A ton of our hitters haven't had the power numbers they've had in years past (I'm looking at you Cody). Now that we have a big bopper in the lineup like Stanton who's hitting nothing but doubles and homers, Morrison steadily getting on base, Cody and Ronny starting to regain his power swing, and Gaby starting to refind his swing after a little slump, we are starting to have a little bit of that lineup we displayed in 2008 where it was live and die by the "3 run jack". Although I'd like to see a few more hits and more contact from our hitters, I like a lot more that we are starting to see the power return to this lineup.
July 31, 201016 yr Also doesn't account for walks, but I don't care enough to delve deep into that stuff. I was just interested cuz it seemed like the only game we out-hit a team was in Anibal's one hitter, and that was a pretty god damn close assumption. However, should be noted we're averaging 4.2 runs per game since the break, which is less than our season average and less than the NL average.
July 31, 201016 yr I think it's funny that at the end of July we were 37-41 and outscoring opponents by 22 runs I think. Now in July we're 15-10 but being outscored by 10 runs. But whatever, we're winning so it's cool.
August 1, 201016 yr The bullpen gets the vote from me tonight. The only baserunner came off a ball that should've been caught by Petersen in the 9th. Speaking of Petersen, he's rather useless. He really is, I'd rather try to sign Hermida if he clears waivers and is released...
August 1, 201016 yr How big of a play did that base running error turn out to be in the 1st? Volstad was on what, 35 pitches before we got that gift? Who knows what would have happened after that. Either way, that was a good W and hopefully it carries over to tonight.
August 1, 201016 yr Wasn't too impressed with Volstad but he kept it close and maybe picking up the W will boost his confidence and allow him to attack more in his next outing.
