Posted September 5, 201014 yr Here are a few sports movies that aren't terribly popular, but ones I very much enjoyed. I've made reference to some of these before but I'd like to get all the sports movies in one thread, as I am a huge sucker for them. Post them here if you have any, because I would love to hear them. These arent all sports movies, but some have sports intertwined with the story. The Greatest Game Ever Played Starring Shia LaBouf ---True story about the 1913 US Open and Francis Ouimet, the only amateur to win the US Open. Very solid golf movie. The World's Fastest Indian Starring Anthony Hopkins ---True story about Burt Munro, an old man from New Zealand who is trying to set the land speed record in 1967 on a 1920 Indian Motorcycle. Such a good movie. Hopkins is awesome. Rebound: The Legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault Starring Don Cheadle ---True story about the aforementioned Earl Manigault and his legacy as one of the best street basketball players in New York history and his subsequent troubles with drugs and life on the street. Very good performance by Cheadle, in I believe, a made for TV movie. Sugar Starring Algenis Soto ---Story about a minor league player from the Dominican and his struggles with adapting to life in the united states. good character study and shows the troubles that a lot of dominican players deal with. Saint Ralph Starring Adam Butcher ---Story about a 9th grader who wants to run the 1953 Boston Marathon in hopes of performing a miracle to bring his mother out of a coma. I know that sounds a little corny but this is a fun movie. The lead child actor is hilarious and I guarantee you will enjoy it. Madison Starring Jim Caviezel ---My least favorite of the ones mentioned but still a feel good, fun watch anyway. True story about the Miss Madison hydroplane boat racing team and the man who raced them.
September 6, 201014 yr I saw Sugar on tv one night, i think it was on HBO or something. Pretty good movie.
September 6, 201014 yr I thought Sugar would be better. I mean he was a decent movie, but nothing more than that. People may laugh when I say this, but my favorite sports movie is The Replacements. I don't know what it is about it, I just love it.
September 6, 201014 yr Author I liked sugar just for the simple fact they showed my hometown stadium quit regularly.. and it looked pretty sweet on film. It wasn't what I expected though.. just a character study with a little baseball sprinkled in. I thought it would revolve more around baseball than it did. The Replacements huh? Lol.. i enjoyed that movie too. The deaf guy dancing in the jail when everyone stopped still makes me laugh. I wouldnt exactly call it my favorite though! That honor goes to FIeld of Dreams and Rudy (with Worlds fastest indian very close behind). Tin Cup is also a favorite of mine.
September 6, 201014 yr The Express, The Blind Side, We Are Marshall, Miracle just to name a few. You also gotta love Major League and Major League II. My favorite has gotta be A League of Their Own though.
September 6, 201014 yr Author A League of their Own is definitely one of my favorites too.. is there anything better than when he throws the glove at Nelson? The laugh that tom hanks lets out is glorious. "Did anyone ever tell you that you like a penis with a hat on" and "And there's Marla Hooch... what a hitter!" :lol :lol i love it - i think i may pop that movie in now that you all mention it
September 6, 201014 yr Love love love that movie! I think I may watch it as well. The part when he takes a piss is hilarious as well. Those of you who know me well will laugh, but Madonna was great in it too. Love her. So fierce.
September 7, 201014 yr My favorite sports movies are The Replacements and Remember The Titans, along with the first two Major Leagues.
September 8, 201014 yr Bull Durham For the Love of the Game Brian's Song Friday Night Lights Sandlot (I was so in love with the character Benny Rodriguez when I was a little girl) Rookie of the Year
September 8, 201014 yr Gotta agree with a lot of these. A League of Their Own Major League 1 and 2 The Sandlot Some that haven't been mentioned that I love as well: Necessary Roughness and Rookie of the Year.
