Yeah, that's what I've heard as well, that there's a good shot he just sits at home.

All of the headlines are saying that's he doesn't want the Mets job and actually might not manage at all.

 

Yep. Just media hype. Fans take it much more seriously than they should.

 

The Mets are in such disarray that I would have to wonder who would want that job. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a complete house cleaning there this off season with coaching and FO. (but I did say that last year too) I heard they have something like $120 mil already committed to next season and alot of that is guys they not only don't want, but will be hard to trade because of the contracts. Not a good situation to step into.

I don't think the Mets have a contractual problem nearly as bad as a team like the Cubs does.

 

They owe a lot of money to Santana still, but he's putting up good numbers.

 

The $20 million they owe to Beltran neck year is a pain in the neck, but he's a FA after that. I think the worst thing they might have on the books is the Jason Bay deal, but he seems he could bounce back. It's really astonishing how bad his 2010 season was. He's been injured with some whiplash conditions but that doesn't really account for the bad numbers he put up.

They should just real in 2 very good players for Johan and trade Beltran.

The Cubs are in a far worse situation at this point than the Mets. The Mets have far less money tied up in bloated and underperforming contracts than the Cubs do. Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, and Carlos Zambrano alone account for nearly $60 million in salary. There's a remote chance that Ramirez doesn't exercise his 2011 option, but I can't imagine why he wouldn't when there's no way in hell he gets $12.5 million next year through free agency. The Cubs also need pitching, since

 

Regardless both teams should just go into rebuilding mode at this point, although the Cubs' farm system is a lot better than the Mets', making it more difficult for NY to do that. Plus there's the ever present pressure of having to compete with the Yankees in the same city.

So one of two things I take from these comments.

 

1.) You guys have forgotten about Oliver Perez and his $12 mil and Castillo's $6 mil contracts for 2011.

 

2.) You guys think those two guys are either tradeable without eating alot of the $$$ for them or will contribute to the Mets in 2011.

 

That's just two more off the top of my head. But K-Rod and his $11.5 mil 2011 contract could fit in there as well.
