December 3, 201015 yr 3B: Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Fields CF: Tony Gwynn Jr, Ryan Church Not exactly a wonderful list. Does anyone have anything good to say about these guys? Feel free to add to the list of names I missed
December 3, 201015 yr I think Tony Gwynn Jr. would be a cool idea. Obviously nowhere near as cool as his father, but still cool.
December 3, 201015 yr I say you add Russ Martin to that list, lol. Tony Gwynn and Josh Fields would be pretty cool. Fields as a reclamation project. Wasn't he supposed to be the next big 3B?
December 3, 201015 yr Author Fields as a reclamation project. Wasn't he supposed to be the next big 3B? Just another case of Chicago media/fans/FO overvaluing their own prospects. The list is a mile long
December 3, 201015 yr Yeah, Fields just sucks. Gwynn is interesting because he's really good defensively in CF, and can provide a solid .OBP, at the plate. The only downside with Gwynn is that he has no power, but Gwynn in CF + Coghlan/Infante 2B/3B>>>>>> Coghlan in CF + Infante at 3B + Bonifacio at 2B.
December 3, 201015 yr Author Speaking of former top prospects, Lastings Milledge was non-tendered. Can he play CF at all? I know nothing about the guy but he is only 25
December 3, 201015 yr Speaking of former top prospects, Lastings Milledge was non-tendered. Can he play CF at all? I know nothing about the guy but he is only 25 No; he can't even play a good LF. Remember the Bonifacio inside-the-park HR on Opening Day in '09? One of Milledge's great moments in CF... EDIT: Considering we're have a leadership debate today, it's worth noting that Milledge sucks as a player and is an asshole, as well.

December 3, 201015 yr This thread's pretty legit, but in general, I wish we could just consolidate these threads into 1 gigantic thread, unless someone supasick like Justin Upton comes into the discussion. These threads about Papelbon and Thome give me a pretty big headache heh
December 3, 201015 yr and is an asshole, as well. He was great doing the "let's run around the warning track and get high-5s from the fans 'cause I'm cool" ass-hat routine as a rookie. Definite attitude problem, probably unresolved to this day. Not surprising that he's been traded many times since. No, thanks.

December 4, 201015 yr All stinky. For the record, Gwynn is not an obp guy. He's not bad at it. Posted a .350 .OBP in '09, and had a .304 .OBP last year despite a low .204 batting average (which was likely a fluke, due to his .236 .babip). If Omar Infante is an .OBP guy (as the Marlins keep calling him), Tony Gwynn Jr. is one, as well.
