Posted December 6, 201013 yr Crede is coming off a season in which he missed the whole year after having back surgery. Prior to this, he was oft-injured for the previous few seasons. This means he will be dirt cheap which means not much risk.. sign him and stick him in the 8 spot. It seems we want this defensive presence at 3B which is why Dominguez is being named.. but no reason to rush him, especially when we can sign Crede to do the same thing at a very cheap price. Crede is an amazing defender and could offer a little in the power department. I say get it done.
December 6, 201013 yr Unless he was replaced with a T-1000 exo skeleton, I say pass. To brittle even for a reserve role. And I still say a veteran 4th outfielder is more important than 3B depth.
December 6, 201013 yr I agree with you! That's why I posted the thread about Eric Chavez as well. Either one would come dirt cheap. Both players are low risk... I beileve Dominguez will be a real nice player but like you said there is no need to rush him if we get one of these low risk vets. Dominguez sure has the glove but his stick just isnt big league ready yet. I would love to sign a cheap vet to have some open competiion in the spring.. It wont hurt.
December 6, 201013 yr Author And I still say a veteran 4th outfielder is more important than 3B depth. I think they could probably do both
December 6, 201013 yr If he's cheap I'd give it a shot. I'm really not comfortable with Bonifacio or Dominguez at 3rd this year.
December 6, 201013 yr Yeah Iowa. I think I suggested this as well awhile ago. I don't see the harm in it but maybe the FO is so obsessed with Wes Helms they won't pick up Crede. Who's better? Helms or Crede? Helms is cheaper than Crede? It's not like Helms was actually that productive last year. To me Crede is worth more since he could actually play 3B!
December 6, 201013 yr I wouldn't mind because it'd likely be a minor league deal, but I've seen stuff saying that teams might be shying away from him because he probably can't even play 3B anymore (at least a good one). I believe that's why the Twins actually let him go, in the first place.
December 6, 201013 yr Author I've read that he was playing 3B at a very high level in 2009 before his injury. Sign him to a minor league deal and see if he still can after the back surgery. He was an amazing defender and have a hard time believing he's not anymore.. plus, not really sure how teams would even know. Twins let him go because he couldn't stay healthy, not because he was incapable. But back injuries are funky so you never know.
December 6, 201013 yr Any player who has a band named after them is good enough for me. Crede will make us SOOOOOOOOAR
December 7, 201013 yr Author I must point out that Crede is pronounced with an E sound at the end of his name and also isn't super super gay
December 7, 201013 yr I must point out that Crede is pronounced with an E sound at the end of his name and also isn't super super gay I think they were referencing the fact he is a baritone too, but I could be wrong.
December 7, 201013 yr You are right Iowa.....makes way too much sense.....except.... We have a guy named Wes Helms, who can't start, can't pinch hit, has 0 power- taking his roster spot.

December 8, 201013 yr Juan Rodriguez reports that the Marlins haven't considered "taking a chance" on Crede.
