June 7, 201115 yr Probably one of the worst subject about and can cause a lot of offence to many. Had an interesting conversation this morning with a friend who seems to pull to all stereotypes known to man. She mentioned one so i persisted to ask about everywhere else. I don't think i will post them as some could cause offence. But it was ridiculous about all the stuff she believed. It is the same in the USA? Do people believe the claims? Such as all Englishman are bowler-hat wearing toffee nosed tea drinkers? P.S I hate tea.
June 7, 201115 yr If someone said that just because I'm Scottish I drink far too much.......then they would be correct
June 7, 201115 yr That one is true. You had a battered Mars bar? Nah never tried one. Can imagine it would be horrific
June 8, 201115 yr Author Would have to agree, i don't even like battered sausage so the Mars bar would be plain sick.
June 8, 201115 yr I should add, to contribute to the Scottish drinking stereotype that in fact I had a 16 hour (1pm - 5am) drinking session last Sunday for my uni grad ball :| Very very messy.....

June 9, 201115 yr Author I have heard that Englishmen don't take care of their teeth. Never got that, only time you see bad teeth like in all places is the drug users. There are a few of America, the weight is one, rednecks are another. Only select parts have rednecks and the weight im not to sure on, when i have been to America and Florida i have experience large people. In the Outback restaurant i saw what i could describe as a 30 stone man. 30x14 to get your pounds.

Such as all Englishman are bowler-hat wearing toffee nosed tea drinkers? P.S I hate tea. It's exactly the same in the USA. I hate stereotypes. I acknowledge them, however. A stereotype is something that a relatively noticeable amount of people fit in a certain social group. They're right to exist, but they are absolutely wrong to be applied to someone because they belong to that social group. For example. You're likely going to find that more black people are into hip-hop music. It's statistically correct. But that doesn't mean all black people listen to hip-hop music, nor does it mean that even the majority of black people do. Don't be afraid to state them... if someone gets on your case for it I'll step on their face. How does that sound?
June 9, 201115 yr You can find a redneck anywhere. In all 50 states. Lies (well true, probably. But not as though a significant amount of rednecks populate every state). True rednecks though are generally confined to the South and Midwest.

June 10, 201115 yr Not at all. You just need to be in a rural area. The term 'redneck' is a term that is 100% historically attributed to the South. If you're calling someone a redneck in the North, you're misusing the term. Unless they're actually a redneck who moved North, which I'm sure exist in every state.

Possibly, but that particular Southern concept has absolutely permeated areas all across the country. However, I'm one who thinks that redneck is/should be considered a racial slur, and thus not used to describe a person that you disapprove of. Just my two cents.
June 10, 201115 yr I'm more on the idea that a cracker is a racial slur of the same context. Same kind of thing. It implies a dumb white person, and I don't think it's ok to use the term casually.

It's really not though. Or at least as I see it, redneck is less offensive than cracker. Like I said before though, I completely acknowledge stereotypes. They do derrive from something that is absolutely real. It's why they exist. I just don't apply it to anyone who is eligible to fit that stereotype, because that's not fair. I also simply don't see how the word redneck is really that offensive.

It is what it is. Like I said, just my opinion.
