August 1, 201114 yr I could have sworn there was a topic on this but couldn't find it through the search. If there is, Mods please go ahead a merge this. Just wanted to let everyone know, many have been asking, the 4 parking garages for the new marlins ballpark will cost 15.00. The FULL season ticket holders have first dibs on purchasing the parking passes. As far as the surface lots, nothing was mentioned nor was a price given.
August 1, 201114 yr Then it looks like I will either park on some dudes lawn or take the metrorail and walk down. $15 is a bit much.
August 1, 201114 yr I expected it to be at least $15 since they have to pay the city $10 for each parking spot if I remember right.
August 1, 201114 yr $15 is pretty reasonable when you compare it to other cities. It's definitely not a bargain, but pretty typical I'd say.
August 1, 201114 yr Author $15 is pretty reasonable when you compare it to other cities. It's definitely not a bargain, but pretty typical I'd say. Agree. I would assume the surface lot (where tailgating is allowed) will be the same 15 bucks. If anything 10 at the least.
August 5, 201114 yr Assuming the FO doesn't cave and pay my dad's office a reasonable amount to take over their lot, which I doubt at this point, I'll be parking there for free and walking the few feet to the stadium whenever I'm in town.
August 5, 201114 yr I got a letter from the Marlins saying that I had the privilege, as a ST holder, to buy 83 parking passes at $15 a piece.
August 5, 201114 yr It's $15 if you buy the entire season package of 83 games. It's discounted, just like buying the parking package is now. Paying for parking game by game it will be more. Count on it. I said a long time ago that I think parking will be about $20 doing it that way. I'm sticking by that.

Count on it. I said a long time ago that I think parking will be about $20 doing it that way. I'm sticking by that. Plan on buying the passes? Nope. Already threw the form out. Because of drive times home, I doubt very much if we go to enough games to make it worthwhile for us. And the tickets we sell will sell with or without parking passes. You plan on buying them? Does anybody here?
August 26, 201114 yr More than $15 is outrageous. The need to make it affordable if the want people to show up. I can park 150 feet from the gate at Turner Field for 10-12 bucks. And they don't struggle with attendance. It's the same with food prices...price them trough the roof and people will eat outside the stadium before coming in. If it's reasonable, the profit margin is smaller, but they will more a lot more product. Simple economics...don't nickel and dime people.
August 26, 201114 yr In Scotland you just park on the street near the stadium for free Yes, you park your $38,000 Ford Focus with its $170 tank of gas for free

And they're not that great with attendance for a team of their stature (that's always been something criticized about Atlanta sports). On TOP of that, the fact that they have better attendance means they means there are more cars paying for parking, right? Simple economics: The Marlins pay the city 10 dollars per parking spot, because the Marlins don't own the garages. Still think they should charge 10 bucks for parking?

I think $15 would be fair if paying game by game. That would make season passes about $12. Plus, I seem to remember someone, someplace, saying the "off site" parking would be more. And I'm not so much buying into that "more" theory. Our attendance should be very good in 2012. So we will be having that "more" theory also. Looks like they plan to cash in on that. Can't say I blame 'em either.
August 29, 201114 yr $15 isn't ridiculous. Yankees garage parking is $35, valet is $48. http://baseball-park.../Parking-Rates/ Red Sox parking is $27.50 to $55. http://www.parkwhiz....CFcnr7Qod6lpQDQ White Sox parking is $33. http://www.parkwhiz....-field-parking/ Mutts parking is $19, $25 post-season :lol http://www2.impark.c...on=newyorkmetro Nationals parking is $5 (about a mile away) to $50, most of it is $35. http://mlb.mlb.com/w...ark/parking.jsp $15 will be close to average for MLB. Isn't that what we want them to be? Used to pay $2 to park in the mid-'60s to see the Twins at the Met. That's $15 today. Can't get at all upset about that. The Marlins are obligated to buy ALL garage spaces for ALL games at $10 a pop. They're still on the hook for any unsold spaces, so they're not going to net anywhere near $5 a space over an entire season unless it turns into a constant stream of sell-outs. In any case, finally being in a position to realize some net revenue from parking just puts them in a position to spend more on payroll. Assuming they spend wisely, that's a good thing. Now, there's an alternative philosophy of subsidizing parking to inspire the purchase of more game tickets as practiced by the Angels. They offer $8 parking, but they're not paying $10 a space like the Marlins will be, they own the ground on which parking happens. So, it's not comparable at all, except to the extent that Loria might try a parking promotion in the future to see if it works. My guess is that other promotions will be more likely.

Everything you listed, with the exception of Chicago, is in the northeast. It is a completely different economy. That is like me trying to buy a house in Georgia, where I live, but looking at comparable s in Seattle. It kust doesn't work. If you are motivated enough, pull prices on Atlanta and Tampa. Those are comparable that could, and should be used.
August 30, 201114 yr $15 is definitely average and fair, but I hesitate to use the New York teams' pricing as justification for this. Cities like Chicago and DC also have pretty efficient (and widely used) rail systems that give most fans a convenient, inexpensive alternative to paid parking. Miami has some mass transit, but it's probably the worst among all MLB cities outside of maybe Arlington (Texas) or Kansas City.
August 30, 201114 yr Yeah, Miami's public transit is irrelevant considering the commuter system (tri-rail) blows.
August 30, 201114 yr Everything about our mass transit sucks. I can't think of another major city with mass transit that's so bad.
August 30, 201114 yr Miami's mass transit is definitely one of the worst, but I don't think that the two cities I mentioned previously (Arlington, Kansas City) have any means for a fan to get to the park outside of driving there. I think they are pretty much oriented like Sun Life is right now. The Nationals might charge you $35 to park in one of their lots, but at least you can get to the park by utilizing what is perhaps one of the best metro system in the United States in terms speed, cleanliness, safety, and area covered. The Marlins aren't really offering fans much of an alternative. There are also a lot of private lots not too far from Nationals Park where you can park for $10-15. I think it's mostly just season ticket holders who use the team owned lots. The irony here is that the cities listed as having expensive parking have arguably the best mass transit systems in the country (and highest ridership for subway systems): New York, DC, Chicago, and Boston.
August 30, 201114 yr They were talking about having their "own" transportation system in place for the games. Not sure how they are, or were. planning that.
