Jack Announces Retirement

“I hate it but I’ll still be on call, he said.

“I hope to continue to do some kind of work for them if they will have me."

Asked if he will manage again some day, McKeon said: “Hopefully in 2017 or ’18 I’ll be back. That would be big motivation, to beat Connie (Mack). I’m number two. Hopefully the good lord gives me enough good healthy so I can last another seven or eight more years so I can do it again.’’

Good luck Jack and thanks for all you have done for the Marlins. This season was rough for you, but you did the best you could with what was given to you.

I imagine he goes right back to being a "special asst. to the President of the Marlins" type deal. He is tied to this franchise and I doubt he'd ever manage anywhere else.

I would hope he can come back in 18-19, even as a publicity stunt. It would be great if he had that kind of vitality.

Promote him to GM, he did pretty good putting together the Padres in the 1980's, yeah that was thirty years ago, waaaayyy before Moneyball

I know he probably enjoyed it, but Jack deserved better than the team that was out there this year (so did Edwin, for that matter).
