yeah, i'm not particularly convinced that we'd have to non-tender enc in the first place. he's a great fielder, and i'm sure 2004 would be his career power season if he's playing in a stadium other than PPS.

Let's say the O's do not get Vlad. Encarnacion would be a perfect fit for them, we could probably get a pretty good trade because they will be desperate. Maybe we could get Riley, and another one of their good pitching prospects.

*wakes up Fran from his dream* It's no more than a crazy dream than your Vlad idea. We did well in the Lee deal, and Enc. isn't much less of a player than Lee. I actually think he could be better down the road. I think we could get some very good young talent if we package Enc. and Big Red together in a deal.

Sources have said that the Braves have contacted the Marlins about possible trades for encarnacion and redman. It is believed to be for prospects but the braves have a great minor league system so the marlins should be able to get something pretty good in return if they do a trade with them.

maybe Nelson and Wainwright...?

Ok so anyway, I think that we could let Ivan go, and release encarnacion. We need redman though because 'Burnett Pavano Beckett Willis Penny' wont exist till the very least July. However we do drop enc and ivan, that's about 13.45 million we save, 3.45 for enc, and ivan's proposed 10 a year. We could then proceed to get bullpen depth, which could include fox and urbina.

 

What do ya'll think?

It's not far-fetched, but I agree with Pubes (there's four words I never thought I'd type). I think Wayne is going to be a complete bust. He doesn't strike out enough people. He only averaged 6 K's per game in the minors; if that drops in the majors, he won't make it.

Lifelong baseball fan here......I always say, until the 'official' press conference announcing the contract agreement....its not a done deal. Sounds great, and will be nice, when it happens.

One thing is for sure, if he doesnt have command of his pitches and throws with confidence, he is not going to have any success. He does not have a fireball to throw up there like Beckett, Burnett or Penny have. He will rely, like Redman, on painting the corners and finesse. He is Loria's boy, but I dont think that alone will get him his spot.
