Posted December 8, 201113 yr Admin et. al, The Marlins are becoming more popular. This is a wonderful thing for the team and the board alike. We will be getting lots of new members. In the past, it hasn't been that difficult to read every post in the Marlins forum and respond to a good number if you were a frequent user. That might not be possible in the future. And, with more users comes more "uninformed" people and/or trolls. Not necessarily a higher % (but maybe), but definitely a higher number. The more active users always seemed to feel like they could get a handle on such people, but that won't be possible, at least to the same extent, as the board grows. I've watched this happen on a New York Jets message board I read. Anyway, I was hoping for some guidance on conduct, what is or isn't okay. I enjoy giving my thoughts where I think they are beneficial, and I enjoy ribbing someone who I think is being ridiculous; but, I don't want to get out of control -- at least, not what you perceive as out of control. Thanks.
December 8, 201113 yr How dare you not use the walk-off against the Mets. Seriously though, that was awesome.
December 8, 201113 yr Basically, all we ask is that people don't directly attack each other. Disagreeing with someone is fine, it's one of the major parts of a message board actually. Saying something like "You're an idiot" or "You're just a troll" or similar things just leads to taking a topic off it's original topic. That spins topics out of control and ruins them. We're not here to police anyone, and we hate getting involved to be honest. I try to give you as much of a freedom here as possible with posts. It's no fun to use "power" or anything like that. I don't want to speak for the moderators but I know from my own view, I prefer just being another one of you all and posting along with you. I don't want to be any different. I agree that traffic should continue to rise with increased interest in the team. I'll add extra moderators if I see it's needed but thus far, things seem to be under control overall. If you see a problem with someone trolling or spamming, click the Report button under one of their posts. It'll alert all of the mods and also alert me -- this way we can see it and step in if we have to.
December 8, 201113 yr Things have been pretty tame from what I can tell. I think this is a little premature. Things have been fine, agreed on that. I can see why mystikol brought it up though, since interest could continue to grow once Spring Training hits. We weathered the Pujols storm though so that's a good sign.
December 8, 201113 yr Author Things have been pretty tame from what I can tell. I think this is a little premature. Oh, I agree. But I've seen this happen before. The really small community on this board + a good number of knowledgeable posters has lead to the maintenance of a certain atmosphere. But, it's a legitimate possibility -- likely, in my opinion -- that things shift in that direction, even if we avoid anything resembling total chaos. My hope was to get this out there early, because I didn't want things to be unclear; otherwise, there can be bans/backlash/etc. that could be preempted by a clear enunciation of the rules. I've seen lots of good posters banned from places because of lack of clarity. I feel like the mods here don't ban easily, but there could be a tendency to tighten the reins as things shift. Just wanted to open the discussion.
December 8, 201113 yr What's the worst thing someone has said or done to merit being banned from the site? Just curious. And examples might be helpful.
December 8, 201113 yr Now I'm confused. mystikol = Godzilla noobles poster = noobles poster mystikol wants to clarify that he will stomp on said rotten newbies if they cross his path, because he is innately better than them.
December 8, 201113 yr What's the worst thing someone has said or done to merit being banned from the site? Just curious. And examples might be helpful. We're not going to ban anyone for calling others idiots, unless they constantly do it after being asked to refrain from that. 95% of the bans here the past few years have been from accounts that sign up just to spam or just to troll. Very rarely has anyone been banned otherwise, and if they are it's normally 24 hours to cool off. As for the worst thing, honestly I can't think of an example. If I do, I'll let you know.

To be honest with you, this is the only fan site/message board I have ever been a member of, sports, pop culture or politics. Just MB.com
December 8, 201113 yr I once banned myself just to see how it felt. I've also locked myself out a few times when I forgot my password.

December 8, 201113 yr I remember I got a two day ban early on for taunting Erick I believe. Wow, I never knew you had such a dark past.
December 8, 201113 yr Author Now I'm confused. If you're referring to my response, then I'm sorry. I'm having a somewhat difficult time putting it into words. If you've been a member of a large sports board, though, you've probably seen it. It's tough to describe precisely.
