Wild Card
I mean, good for him, it's on his terms. But he's only 34 and was pitching lights out this year. It's sad because the few times I did see him pitch this season the stuff was still there, but he had really learned how to pitch, and it was a lot of fun to watch. Whatever, good for him, but it's kind of annoying. On a positive note, I'll never forget that post-season. Not just Game 6, but that whole fucking post-season, just totally dominant. Two things that always have stuck in my mind... 1) Against the Cubs in the NLCS in Miami, facing Sammy Sosa, just totally gassing him up. From 98... to 99... to 100 MPH on the third swinging strike to end the inning was just unreal to watch. 2) In Game 6, during the telecast, seeing him walk off the mound in the middle of the game to Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" gave me goosebumps. I didn't know it at that moment, but it certainly was foreshadowing for the end of that game and series. Pretty awesome stuff.
fanofthefish
Sad to see him go! I saw his first game as a professional in spring training in 2000 against the Royals, he even stopped and signed before the game, he wasn't even 20 years old. I see he's still going to have surgery maybe he'll just take the year off and give it another go next year. Thanks for a great 2003 post season!
