November 10, 201410 yr such a mutts move. What a terrible signing. If he's not hurt half the year, he's going to be awful away from Coors.
November 10, 201410 yr The worst part is the Mets are surrendering their 15th overall draft pick to sign Cuddyer. I think this is likely a small move to try and keep David Wright happy in New York so he doesn't ask for a trade anytime soon.
November 13, 201410 yr Its really not that terrible a signing. In 2013, when Cuddyer was healthy, he did hit .311 with an .852 OPS on the road. It costs them a draft pick, but them trading for any bat of his quality would essentially cost them the same thing in reality. And this didnt cost them any of their fantastic young pitching. They will be in competition for a playoff spot next year and depending on what the Marlins do this winter, they may or may not have pushed ahead of them with this move.
November 13, 201410 yr Dumb move- he' only hit higher than .284 once and that was when he won the BA title with Colorado. He's entering the twilight of his career and his age 36,37 seasons in a park that surpresses his already limited power, after missing over 100 games last year. He goes where he wants, NY and gets to play with a friend in Wright- but this is a move that should backfire for the Mets. Good for Cuddyer, but the Mets could have gotten his production from a ML rookie fighting for a job.
November 13, 201410 yr Cuddyer doesn't suck... But the Mets just have this recent habit of making their biggest free agent signings be a just beyond his best years veteran who they think will put them over the hump only to have them do a whole lot of nothing. Obvious case in point being Mr Granderson.
November 14, 201410 yr It's a 2 year deal, they gave a 40 year old 400 pound pitcher more money last year and certainly much better than the Granderson deal. This is not a huge layout, but the pick kind of sucks. But they have to go for it at some point and if Cuddyer can help get them over that hump (they'll need a SS too) than go for it.
November 14, 201410 yr He could sure flash the leather though I would be in favor of having Ventura, Olerud, Alfonso, Ordonez and Piazza coming out of retirement and playing in Miami for a month. Seriously- I'm sure Piazza could still hit and field better than Salty. He can certainly hit better than Mathis.
November 14, 201410 yr In today's game were the SS has regressed back to little offense, he would probably be an all star.
