I am shocked......

I feel you may have said this 2 starts ago.

I actually feel the complete opposite of SITA. Latos was good in the past before his injury and he can be good again if fully healed. Salty has always been garbage. That one is way more surprising to me. Even with the sox he was playing part time.

here comes ravishing bruce rude to make the switch.

his velocity is even worse than last year. He's gonna get rocked at some point but he could still be a passable SP

You obviously didn't watch Salty in 2013...but outside of that season he was pretty average. I still have no problem with us signing him then, it just backfired. Same thing with Latos. Both guys were worth the risk, we just got screwed. I'd rather see the team take chances like that than stand pat like they did this offseason (Outside of Chen of course).

Salty has always had a huge hole in his swing which made him a strikeout machine, but he has had a good eye which keeps his OBP respectable. He's also a decent defensive catcher despite some boneheaded plays. Latos, on the other hand, is currently holding batters to a .118 BABIP. That will go up by about .200 and catch up to him quickly.

I haven't checked in a while, but I'm pretty sure I looked and saw his struggles were over something close to just 10 innings. I'm pretty sure it was just one awful awful stretch and we traded him as he was starting to rebound.

There were indications that it wasn't temporary. His velocity was down from the year before. I don't know what it's at this season but when a pitcher starts losing velocity especially if it isn't due to injury it's a red flag any regression or bad play may not be temporary.

I'm not one to defend the Marlins front office usually but getting rid of cishek salty and especially latos were not bad moves.

I said bring back Latos for one year before he signed with white sox.

That would've been a stupid decision. Latos was bad here and wouldn't be any better here this season. He's lost a lot of what made him good in the past, regardless of what his basic stats say right now.

culture of losing, fellas.

I'm just treading water until the bottom of the ninth.

And the velocity was proven to be a coaching issue with him having him arm slot low. He told the Marlins staff this, and he was still traded not long after, even though his numbers were improving. There's absolutely no indication that he ahd suffered arm damage that was permanent and that all of his problems were easily fixable. The Marlins front office and the fans didn't care and wanted him gone (Marlins wanted him gone because they didn't want to pay). Simple as that.

Dude enough. We get it.

Trading for Latos to begin was an absolutely stupid decision by a FO that cares about one pitching stat: ERA. All evidence of him declining were right there and predicted by a lot.

His velo is still way down this year

The only culture of losing is you on this board. You are a cancer to everything here.

I wonder how he's doing with his new teammates. he was so problematic everywhere else.

I obviously did watch 2013 salty very closely and his numbers were artificially good based on his platoon situation with Ross. Playing in a hitters park and the fact that he does have a good eye and had a good obp that year. But his mechanics are terrible and he's definitely going to regress to the mean.

I was against that signing because we gave him a contract for a player that was supposed to be a key piece after having just one "good" year. If we're going to spend we have to be smart about it. And I was not at all surprised at how bad he ended up being.

far from the truth. and I won't stoop low to insult you. so you can nip that in the bud.

It was a one year deal and the amount of money wasn't franchise killing. I still have no issue with it at all. It was a short term, low risk financially move that didn't work out. I'd do the move again just because any small chance of him becoming an established #2 again would've made us a playoff contender.
