since 2005, Marlins have had 1 3rd round draft pick with a WAR over 1.0 which is Realmuto at 2.6 so far.  Stand by for Rounds 1-2.

The draft is a crapshoot. The Marlins have made some mistakes, but so has every other team in the big leagues including some of the good ones.

The big league team has plenty of guys who were drafted by the Marlins, including some of the best players.

The problem is the cheap owner and the lack of an analytics department, which apparently changed last offseason.

Yes, and just like all the trades made in 2015 was a calculated risk that could fail horribly. But the PR of him leaving would've been bad, he is 25 when starting the deal which limits chance of failure and if he succeeds there was always a chance of trading him as he got older. It was a well structured deal for a team that expects new ownership in 5 yrs.

Its a great deal unless one of those three things happen, then the Marlins are fucked.

6 of 25 players.  Fantastic.

It's more than 6.

Also, I know you're a bandwagon fan and love their team now, but not every team can draft like the Cardinals.

They knew that doing the deal. The alternative was potentially another Cabrera situation.

Not but it's fucking stupid to keep throwing the 325 number out there. This year, he's making $9 million. That's $2 million less than we're paying Jarrod Saltalamacchia to play for another fucking team. $9 million in MLB is nothing.

Stanton isn't even worth $9 million this year anyway. imagine the frustration once he hits the big numbers, LOL.

he could got 30MM this year if he want, but it's his choice for this kind of contract, and it's his choice too for this kind of performance on the field.

Actually, he has been worth $9 million this year. $9 million in MLB is chump change.

Ya I think they drafted 7 and signed 2 as international free agents which is another joke for a different day.

Not really arguing the point with you, just stating the obvious fact really.  I though the Marlins did great with that deal and Stanton played like it like a fucking moron, tbh.

the goal is to win games. so when I see the leader of the marlins offense strike out 12 times in 14 at bats, what do you want me to say? his struggles have legitimately cost us probably a good 5-7 games this year. yelich does his part. prado does his part. ozuna is improving. so what do you want? he's just not a very good player and if I were him, id be embarrassed.

No, that's not the way it works. He didn't have a choice at guaranteed money this year, and the Marlins backloaded the contract as they usually do.

The bottom line is that he's making $9 million this year, which, in context, is not a big deal at all in MLB.

When it's all said and done, if Stanton stays healthy, paying him $9 million this year won't be the reason for the team's failures. A bunch of you just become irrational when he has these ridiculous slumps.

Wrong.

I really can't wait for that.

I'm glad they can e-mail Loria at will and lay down the law.

personally, i'd bench him for 5 straight games. let him clear his head. hurting the team right now at this point because he doesn't even offer productive outs. why would you have him in the lineup if you know he is going to strike out 3,4 times a game anyway.

First round picks:

Volstad 2.9 WAR (though was somehow higher for the Marlins, even though he was trash)  Part of that shit 2005 first round debacle.

Yelich 10.1 WAR

Fernandez 10.9 WAR

Heaney 1.9 WAR (just not with Marlins)

At least they are getting better at first round picks.

obviously running around in a Chewbacca mask while lifting weights outweighs extended batting practice with a proven hitter in bonds.

Because the way baseball works is that you trust your talent to break out of the slump. Just like he did at the beginning of the season and then he went on a tear that helped the team win 11 of 12 games.

Bench him for 5 games to start Ichiro, that's a huge downgrade. This team is not going to do anything if Stanton doesn't hit so you have to hope he snaps out of it soon as he's done before in his career.

Advanced baseball statistics fart in your general direction.  Not even close, guy.

7 pages of post game thread and no one has mentioned Hechavarria getting thrown out at 2B when his team is down 3 runs.

He finally gets a hit and what does he do? Gets thrown out basically jogging into 2B.

that hechavarria play pissed me off because sure enough a rally starts after that. why run to second when I thought it was a guarantee he was going to beat out that dribbler to the pitcher. that play got me so angered.

Our new lead off hitter is OPS'ing .887

Remember when he used to get 4 starts a year?

Well, maybe he should get a day off for that one. I have said in gamethreads that maybe he should get a game off. Not 5.

I guess I should also note that in this assortment of garbage the Marlins have drafted over the last decade or so, they have also had hte following do well for them:

Gaby Sanchez had a 2.3 WAR as a 4th round pick in that disaster of the 2005 draft.

32nd round pick Alex Sanabia and his .7 WAR was the best they got from that fun 2006 draft.

Steve Cishek had a 4.8 WAR as a 5th rounder in their 2007 draft.

Tom Koehler has a 2.8 WAR from the 2008 draft as a 18th round pick, how they didnt fuck that up is beyond me.  Even a blind monkey finds something.

Should be noted Dan Jennings had a 1.9 WAR for the Marlins in that same draft as a 9th round pick.

AJ Ramos has a 5.8 WAR out of the 21st round in the 2009 draft (and highest pick to actually make the majors)

Bryan Ellington and Nick Wittgren came from the 2012 draft but havent even cracked .5 WAR yet.

And thats about it.  Terrible.  Though the last 5 years have been much better than the previous 5 years which was well, shit.

well when chris Capuano strikes you out...the signs are there for a day off.
