5/23 Postgame

I also like how Mattingly faked out Cash in the 8th. With first and third and no out and the pitcher's spot up, he called for Yelich rather than Dietrich. Cash immediately called for a lefty and Mattingly inserted Gillespie, who hit a sac fly to tie the game. It's likely that Yelich wasn't really available, and Mattingly wanted Gillespie against the lefty rather than Dietrich, so Christian was a decoy to ensure the favorable platoon situation.

I can't be in agreement on this despite the fact that it worked out.

Yelich is hitting .379 against lefties this year, and you have to imagine Cash would have brought in the lefty regardless of Yelich or Dietrich, and thus Gillespie hits anyways.

Now, if it so happens that Yelich was truly just a decoy, and had no actual intentions of hitting in that spot [which would have been wacky, what if Cash hadn't taken out Ramirez? Then Yelich goes up there, no?], in which case ... eh?

Whatever, again, it worked out, so I'll live.

Right now our pen sucks again with McGowan Jackson and ureña. Is Morris hurt? I think when Dunn comes back we should also give Wittgren another shot over McGowan. (Maybe Ellington? Ogando when he recovers? Lazo?).

Ellington currently has more walks than innings in New Orleans. He shouldn't be pitching anywhere until he figures out how to fix that.

Anyone want to go to this game with me? If I can find someone, I'll take off work. I can pick you up. LETS GO.

I wish I could

It was actually 20+ but I agree that was a great season production wise for that infield.

Wasn't it like...3/4 were 30+ though? Hanley, Uggla and Jacobs all hit 30+ and Cantu hit 29?

With Jorge Cantú's 25th home run of the season, the Marlins' infielders became the first starting infielder foursome in MLB history to each hit 25 or more home runs. Additionally, Hanley Ramírez's decisive home run on September 13 made him the second Marlin ever to join the 30–30 club.

After checking the stats they all did hit 30+ HR my fault.

Hanley 33

Jacobs 32

Uggla 32

Cantu 29

Yeah, that's what I had thought.  We had already made history and we were one shy of one upping history.

126 Home Runs from just 4 players was incredible.

Add in Cody Ross with 22, Willingham with 15, and Hermida with 17, that was one crazy-powerful lineup.

Yet not a single person drove in 100.

Wow. Lots of solo homers then.

Not too many players in franchise history have driven in 100 though.
