September 21, 201610 yr i mean...atlanta is ahead of nym..just sayin Just stop. You'll get all of the rabble all hot and irrational.
September 21, 201610 yr i mean...atlanta is ahead of nym..just sayin But you and penguino said we should have shut everyone down?
September 21, 201610 yr Author But you and penguino said we should have shut everyone down? i still think it. This team isn't going to go 10-1. I also hate the muts with every fiber of my being
September 21, 201610 yr i still think it. This team isn't going to go 10-1. I don't think they'll go 10-1 either but you both sounded ridiculous calling for the entire team to be shut down given our position in the standings, public perception of the Front Office/ownership and healthy baseball players should play baseball. They have all fucking winter to rest. And please dont don't tell me that Stanton isn't healthy. Unhealthy people don't hit HR's in back to back games.
September 21, 201610 yr But you and penguino said we should have shut everyone down? I'll say it again: shut em down. Playoff odds shot up to a whopping 1.1% but they might change again once the Cards game goes final.
September 21, 201610 yr I'll say it again: shut em down. Playoff odds shot up to a whopping 1.1% but they might change again once the Cards game goes final. Yes. Shut em down because it's not like they'll have the next 5 months off.
September 21, 201610 yr Yes. Shut em down because it's not like they'll have the next 5 months off. Come on man, Yelich could throw his back out putting his spikes on. Better he just shuts it down now.
September 21, 201610 yr Yes. Shut em down because it's not like they'll have the next 5 months off. Shut em down because 10 games (or whatever it is) is plenty of time for injury prone players to re-aggravate injuries. The chances of Stanton injuring himself in the remaining games are probably much higher than the Marlins making the playoffs.

What exactly will happen to Stanton in the remaining games that will keep him out of Spring Training 2017? An asteroid could land on top of him in RF? Let's shut down the guy who has given pleasure starved Marlins fans something to cheer about last night and tonight. Brilliant.
September 21, 201610 yr He could re-aggravate the groin and make it more of a nagging concern. Or pull hamstring or something. It doesn't take an asteroid. The guy is made of glass. I'd rather give the fans excitement on opening day or the HR derby over a game that doesn't matter when nobody is watching. If the Marlins were 5 games under .500, I'd bet money that Stanton wouldn't be starting any games for the rest of the season.

I understand what you're saying but neither of those things would keep him out into next season. He'd recover during the off-season from those.
September 21, 201610 yr I understand what you're saying but neither of those things would keep him out into next season. He'd recover during the off-season from those. I think there's definitely a possibility that they could follow him into 2017 even if he rests in the offseason. Considering that Stanton has missed considerable portions of 4 of the last 5 seasons due to injuries, I think it's a smart move to bench him after having missed several weeks due to injury and when the Marlins are at a point where their playoff chances are incredibly low. The bad outweighs the good in continuing to play him.
September 21, 201610 yr I'd rather give the fans excitement on opening day or the HR derby over a game that doesn't matter when nobody is watching. These games matter more than opening day and the hr derby even with the miniscule chances we have.
September 21, 201610 yr March 2017 is 6 months away. I've never heard of a hamstring pull or groin strain lasting 6 months.
September 21, 201610 yr If the Marlins were 5 games under .500, I'd bet money that Stanton wouldn't be starting any games for the rest of the season. This is absolutely true but the thing is, we're not 5 under, we're 3.5 out of a playoff spot. Even if the chances are low, you still send your best players out there. Teams have overcome worse odds. There's no point in giving up now.
September 21, 201610 yr March 2017 is 6 months away. I've never heard of a hamstring pull or groin strain lasting 6 months. Not lasting, but re-injuring could increase the chances of lingering problems down the road, if only slightly.
September 21, 201610 yr These games matter more than opening day and the hr derby even with the miniscule chances we have. Correct. As I said a few days ago, you do not shut players down until you are mathematically eliminated unless they are injured already obviously. Like I thought AJ was pitching hurt but maybe he isn't. You don't preemptively shut your best players down when you are alive even if the chances are slim.
September 21, 201610 yr Also, I actually feel much more strongly about shutting down Jose than Stanton, for what it's worth.
