NEW ORLEANS ? The New York Mets received an early Christmas present Saturday when free agent outfielder Mike Cameron agreed to accept their three-year offer, sources told SportsLine.com.

Three clubs had been recruiting Cameron: The Mets, Oakland and San Diego. The Athletics were aggressive early and had money to spend after closer Keith Foulke agreed to terms with Boston on Saturday. San Diego, who also had an offer out to Kenny Lofton, met with Cameron and his agent on Friday night. Neither San Diego nor Oakland, however, could match the Mets? location or spotlight.

Cameron, a Georgia resident, wanted to stay on the East Coast after four seasons in Seattle. Cameron, who batted .253 with 18 homers and 76 RBI in a down season for the Mariners in 2003, is expected to become the Mets? regular center fielder. His three-year deal is believed to be worth about $21 million.

Poor Athletics.

I'm not impressed with Cameron. He's got a flashy glove and some pop, but he's never hit over .267 in his career. He's mediocre with a couple flashy tools that make him look better than he is.

I'm not a funny guy, Cedeno will play right- they like him at right field, to the point that they moved Burnitz to center before he was traded.

Cameron walks 70 or more times a season, so he does get on base (but he Ks way too much.) He does horrible at safeco and is good on the road, so maybe he'll put up some decent numbers even though shea is a defense-oriented park. But that's why we signed him, we need his glove.

I'm a mets fan too by the way.

Cedeno played 111 games in RF in 2003.

Timo played 14.

Cedeno will play right.
