Even if attendance is low now because they suck, they're one of those teams that have been around long enough to have people who are fans by birth and because they were raised to be fans. The Cubs bandwagon is extra overloaded right now though and they're close though to Chicago so of course they'll get plenty of Cubs fans at the Reds games now.
April 23, 20179 yr It's become alarming this year, though. They have a fairly solid team, and there's almost nobody at some of these home games. I know Great American seats quite a few more people than Marlins Park, but their attendance looks minuscule compared to ours. It's still April. I'd give them more time. The city cares about them but they've sucked so long that 3 decent weeks isn't enough for the city to suddenly start packing the place. They could and probably will return down to earth soon. Nothing about that team says they're gonna contend this year.

April 25, 20179 yr I was in Cincinnati over the weekend and attended the Saturday game. Yes the Cubs contingent always turn up for games there. I think there were a few more circumstances that exacerbated the problem Saturday. The forecast for Saturday was pretty bad. It showed 100% chance for rain all week. I only attended Saturday's game because it was my only window to sneak in a baseball game while I was up there. It didn't rain by sheer luck. It was also very cold and windy. The walk up crowd was non existent. I'm guessing the Cubs fans there were in town for that game and had locked into attending that day, thus creating a more unbalanced atmosphere. Also, the Reds have played a very home heavy schedule thus far, and their dynamic pricing gave the casual observer more inexpensive opportunities in first few weeks to see the team. But the biggest reason has been laid out already. This is a team in a clear rebuild. There aren't any expectations that they'll be competitive this year so there is little buzz about them outside the hard core base.
