December 15, 200322 yr Just remember $10 million dollars in Florida equates to baltimore having to pay almost $500,000 more to cover the tax difference.
December 15, 200322 yr state income tax is only 5% in maryland.... granted i have no clue since i dont pay any state income tax...so i have no clue what that tax rate is.
December 15, 200322 yr Half the league has been playing the three-run homer game for the past decade. And that is the reason why team payrolls have soared. The Orioles are trying to apply an outdated template to baseball - no longer can you win by just spending money. Even if it is on good players like Tejada and Fudge (they arent getting Vlad). This is what most teams tried to do, only 2 can do it anymore - Yanks, Red Sux. That has mostly to do with the Yanks success. The O's even tried this years ago with Albert Belle and Co. It wont work - their franchise will be choking on these huge contracts and those players, like A Rod, will be screaming to be freed. I cant believe people STILL dont see this.
December 16, 200322 yr I wonder if all this spending will blow up in their faces like it did the last time? :mischief2
December 16, 200322 yr Damn we better get to work on Vlad, The Orioles are offering more than us but Vlad has mentioned, that he wants to be on a winning team. When was the last time the Orioles had a winning season?
December 16, 200322 yr dont people know the old saying? pitching and defense wins baseball games. EXACTLY! I think teams should always listen to that saying...but some teams just pack on with power hitters....and a good offense...pitching is more important-another reason why we shouldnt get Vlad is because we need to concntrate on pitching first-until we have GREAT pitching do we concentrate on getting hitters...just like defense is the key to winning a football game-pitching is the key to winning baseball games...
December 16, 200322 yr When was the last time the Orioles had a winning season? 97 i think They got beat by the Indians in the NLCS that year right?

December 16, 200322 yr They got beat by the Indians in the NLCS that year right? ALCS And if I remember right, Roberto Alomar struck out looking at the end of the game to end the series.

Let us not forget the attempts of small market teams (Tampa with Vaughn, anyone?) to buy a big bat to bring in the crowds. Anyone remember when 20K more people came out every 5th day to watch the D-Train? That has to have more impact than the increased attendance dwindling throughout the year that signing an everyday player to draw people in. The Tigers tried to court a whole bunch of sluggers this offseason (Tejeda, Guerrero among others) while bringing their fences. With that ballpark and cheapskate owner they really could have put out a winner putting out a pitchign and defense team.
December 16, 200322 yr state income tax is only 5% in maryland.... granted i have no clue since i dont pay any state income tax...so i have no clue what that tax rate is. Maryland's state income tax is 4.8% at the highest level.
December 16, 200322 yr Plus you have to note that state income taxes are deductible on your federal income taxes. I believe the highest tax bracket is 38.5% so you have to reduce the 4.8% by that amount. 4.8*(1-.385)
