January 4, 200422 yr Are the marlins going to sign somebody for the bullpen or are they to concerned with another player like vlad or kendall? Or is it the stadium?
January 4, 200422 yr They are really concerned in getting a Lefty for the Pen but we need to wait after the holidays for negotiations to begin again. I dont think we are focusing in Kendall, that was just a thought posted here....
January 4, 200422 yr It's difficult to tell at this point whether the bullpen is set for the beginning of the season, or if they will look for a lefty specialist. They may opt to try some of their young arms (Neu, Neal, Phelps) and make a trade mid-season to fill any gaps.

They may opt to try some of their young arms (Neu, Neal, Phelps) and make a trade mid-season to fill any gaps. I think they'll probably bring in another arm or two. Now that it's January, players will start to lower there demands and there are still plenty of relievers on the market. There are a number of right handed set up men that could fill the 7th inning hole: Terry Adams Danys Beaz Jose Jimenez Jose Mesa Jeff Nelson Antonio Osuna Julian Tavarez(yuck) Turk Wendell Rick White Mike Williams There's also a number of lefties available: Aaron Fultz Jeff Fassero Mark Guthrie Graeme Lloyd Mike Matthews Trevor Miller Terry Mullholland Mike Myers Scott Sauerbeck
January 4, 200422 yr mike williams would be good. he can signa minor league contrat and be a bargain dood. last yr was a fluk e for him. same w. mesa.
January 4, 200422 yr I think Williams would be a good move - especially because he may want to prove something against the Phils. Mesa - hell no. I would like to see Fassero get some consideration for lefty out of the pen. He is a bit old though. Damian Moss would be a great pick up - could be a spot starter/#5 and could be a lefty in the pen if we so chose. Could be cheap too.
January 4, 200422 yr Graeme Lloyd you can scratch him off the list...he won't play for Jeff Loria. (remember that big ordeal late in the 2002 season?) It would be nice if we could get submariner Mike Myers.
January 4, 200422 yr I think Williams would be a good move - especially because he may want to prove something against the Phils. Mesa - hell no. I'd like to keep Williams in this division, but not with us.....I'd like us to see him as often as possible with the way we hit him last year.
January 4, 200422 yr Myers was horrible last year, dbacks fans hated him.. Lets get terry adams and saurbeck, adams had a great last season, and saurbecks a great lefty lefty matchup
January 4, 200422 yr I'd like to get Turk Wendell....his personality would fit right in with this pitching staff.
January 5, 200422 yr out of all of those, the ones that would come somewhat cheap and would prove to be an asset are Guthrie and Sauerbeck .... but i would take a gamble on Mullholland since hes a proven veteran that could help out until AJ is back and than he could take his spot on the bullpen.
January 6, 200422 yr Milhollands numbers.. yuck http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=3952
January 6, 200422 yr I like the idea of Mike Williams. AWESOME slider, and PPS would probably help him significantly. Last year was an off-year, and it happens. If he comes at a decent price, why the hell not?
January 6, 200422 yr Mike Williams has been an Allstar 2 times in a role. I would mind giving him a chance. He is still a great closer like was was 2 season ago.
January 6, 200422 yr Of course one time an undeserving all-star. Terry Mulholland's ERA+ (equalizes for stadium, league tendencies. higher is better) for past 4 years: 91, 90, 74, 87
January 6, 200422 yr Mike Williams has been an Allstar 2 times in a role. I would mind giving him a chance. He is still a great closer like was was 2 season ago. and one of those years he was an all-star with an ERA over 6.00 .... its what happens when you play with the pirates and have absolutly nothing to offer... but i wouldnt mind him.
January 6, 200422 yr it also happens when you have an incompetent manager selecting the all-star pitchers. McKeon will win (hopefully, us) home field advantage this year.
January 6, 200422 yr Our biggest problem visavis acquiring first rate bullpen help is that we don't have an expendable everyday ballplayer to use in a trade with another team. You can only find so many quality relievers through mining the lists of free agents. At this point we have neither the prospects nor a marketable player that we could use to pry loose a dependable arm from another team.
